The open beta of Europa Barbarorum mod for Rome: Total war is out! I know there are many RTW players here, so I think would be nice to post this!
I can´t wait to get home and start the download and see if EB will meet the expectations!
Edit: oops http://www.europabarbarorum.com/

Go to the CD drive, right click on the RTW CD option, and click open. You can then initialize Setup and have a fresh install of RTW on top of the old one, or you can put it into a different location and have two or three installs - its never failed me.

And you're right, RTW is a ***** when it comes time to install; you can never use the easy uninstall.

It's very unpolished, playable but not as fun as it will be once it's more "ready", it seems they gave version # .7XX, well, M&B .711 is far more complete so don't download EB with high expectations as if it was M&B, it's an open beta, not like M&B which is fun and solid, but a true open "beta" with all the features a "beta" usually has to offer (CTDs, bugs, unfinished content, etc.).

I got my first Campaign with the Casse all the way to 190BC, I had to endure dozens of CTDs, to get past them I had to ungarrison all my Generals, so if you get a CTD, take all your generals out of garrison and hope it doesn't CTD for you, so far I haven't encountered any fatal CTD, so hopefully by 14AD I'll have the whole of Western Europe in the hands of my Briton Empire.

Finally got a clean version installed, had to copy the cds to my hard drive to get the setup to run

Downloading and installing now. Been waiting for this one.

Next one I'm waiting on: Fourth Age

Anyone who can't uninstall Rome (and there have been problems) should read this. It is instructions for manual uninstallation.

I'll be getting EB in about 10 days, when my broadband is reset; I've gone over my cap yet again.

Rome: Total Realism is going to be hard to beat. It is the best mod Ive played yet (admitedly Ive only played two). Im buying BI solely to play RTR7.0.

Of prob more interest to people on this game's board is Chivalry: Total War. It's replacing all Roman stuff with medieval stuff. Knights, men-at-arms, crusaders, jihaders, crossbowmen. Great stuff.

It's for BI? oh well, i probably won't get BI because I have lost interest in RTW.

EB is going to completely dominate RTR in terms of scale, completing the game and playability. I never was the chuffed with RTR, to be perfectly honest - and it caused massive slowdowns ingame. I really need that new rig...

The only "bad" thing is that the current version dont work with the new patch.
If they change that....... it would be very good!

But on the upside, 1.2 has no memory leak. It is true that 1.5 has significantly increased the campaign AI's aggressive tendancies but mods tend to fix it their own way.

EB is pretty sweet so far. The way your family members develop is really cool, and I really like the four-turns-per-year deal. Just a few bugs to get worked out and they've got it nailed. Many thumbs up so far.
