Hi !
Is there any etymology for calradian names of towns ? Or is it just a set of syllables that sounds good ?

Durquba: Cordoba/Qurtubah
Vyincourd (it's a castle but anyhow): Agincourt
Veluca: Venice (Ymira calls it "heavenly")
Almerra: Alhambra (? - but the names of some settlements or castles don't seem to fit their factions or nothing at all anyway)

I think the etymology for all of these is "made up by taleworlds". Each factions's towns include phonemes that I guess the devs associate with the languages of their real world counterparts.

Some of the Sarranid location names feel to me like they got some influences of various Arabian slangs, like Darija.

Whether this is intentional or not, I don't know. Seems like they just came up with them because they sound good.

I think the names are mostly designed to take influence from their real-life counterparts. Some succeed while others fail.

The Swadians, based on English and Teutonic knights, have according names. "Vyincourd" is my favorite example. The Nords, while having some cool names, don't really seem consistent. "Sargoth" might have been spelt "Sargoð" in their mother language (Old English? Norse?) although I can't say it really seems to fit. We also know, by examples like Vayejeg, that their phonetics are much different than historical people's. (The J would traditionally have been pronounced as a Y, but the third letter makes that redundant.) The Khergits probably have the most appropriate naming system, though I'd wager there's some occasional Greek influence there.

Most of the names seem randomly generated and have no faction consistency, except the Sarranid ones. Unfortunately.

It has been shown in the past that all faction and village names are derived from the language of the old Empire, Calradic.  Thus, the name Khergit is derived from an ancient Calradic word meaning "sneaky, little bastard".  Similarly, Vaegir comes from an old Calradic word meaning "My nuts are frozen".  Simple, really.
