I think its more showoff if someone beats you 1 on 8.

I also think going 1 on 8 is easier than 8 consecutive duels.

A lot easier. But i'd rather go 1v1, 1v1 than 2v1 against good players. Against noobs I'd rather go 2v1.

Some people play for a challenge, which is why they don't enjoy zerging someone down 5v1.

Some people are bad, and this is the closest they'll ever get to any sort of competitive play, so they enjoy winning rounds and acting like they're playing for money like it means something.

The first mentality pushes you to improve, the second mentality allows you to be complacent and think that having a faction advantaged map means you're a good player (Nords vs Saras on Arena is hard I hear), all while running around with 3 shields and a 1h axe.

Some people should play on duel servers.

So only people on duel servers should attempt to challenge themselves, right?
Got it.

Warband's a small game with virtually no competitive scene. I understand if the only way some people can get kills is zerging someone down 5v1, but I'd prefer a challenge, myself, so I'll continue playing that way. You can continue making vague, cryptic, naive sounding statements, and the rest of the warband community can continue to keep gaming how they see fit.

We both have opinions, the only difference between us is you can't seem to stand that fact. Grow up.

Duels at the end of a battle can be fun. Who cares who's winning the round ? It doesn't always mean dead players are going to wait longer either. However, *****ing because you were zerged like you should be is pretty dumb. In the end, it's always the same : some people are bad losers, and try to find excuses :O If the guy in op's post was that good, then why the hell didn't he kill all the team single handedly ?

I take exception to that. It's not a matter of it being "the only way some people can get kills". It's a matter of the former team having done a colossally better job than the other team at staying alive, and should be able to reap the benefits of that. Do you want to challenge yourself? Then make it a personal goal to keep all of your teammates alive. If you can do that consistently, then that says a whole lot more about your skills than if you can go one-on-one with the odd straggler.

You don't have to explain to me all the variables that comes into winning a SINGLE round of battle mode. I'm no stranger to them. But I also know that there's too many variables to just blatantly state what you stated. That's my opinion, and I'm sticking with it. Besides, if you take a look at how you worded your original post in this thread, you can see where I'm coming from. You know, the absolute in your wording that he must be dueling to show off his dueling skills and that 'we've proven we're better at what matters'.

All in all, in the end, I don't think it proves anything other than your team is winning a SINGLE round of battle mode. Whoop-tey-doo, want a cookie? Lol . . .
You're reading too much into my first post -I just meant that the winning team has done a better job in the battle (for whatever reason) and should be under no obligation to go easy on the last enemy. A bit careless wording perhaps, but even so that's what I see when I go back to look at it.

Of course, the winning team can never prove anything more than the fact that they were better (or, just plain luckier) this time around -as you say, there are plenty of variables. I don't think I implied anything else.

Regarding the actual topic -duels on Battle servers- the consensus will have to be "offer if you will, never expect it to be accepted" it seems.

Some very good responses in here.

It's good to see that many value the team-play aspect over individual K/D glory. Personally, I have far more respect for the average/good set of players that work together to defeat even skilled or better players than the indivdual dueling master.

If i'm left alone to fight 3-5 average players that I could easily dominate in a 1/1 situation, it would be foolish of them to forgo their team strategy to fight me one on one. Of course I would probably accept, although sometimes i really like to see what I can do against those multiple oppenents.

Either way, you won't see me cry about "fairness".

Well, maybe you did. Let's say you hid in some corner and shot five enemy horses. But your team got still killed and 3 enemies remain. There's a limit to what you can do.
But as it is you've got your crossbow loaded and they don't know where you are.
So if the logic is that the larger team can't accept duels because it's a disservice to their team, then logically the lone sniper should sneak from hiding place to hiding place until he gets a clear shot, rinse and repeat. Never give up an advantage, even if it means everyone has to watch a guy standing still in the shrubbery for 2 minutes.

This does happen from time to time.  Luckily, every server I've played on almost immediately initiates a kick for the camper in the bushes.  It's boring as hell to watch some guy sneak around like a coward and nobody puts up with it.

Maybe next time the sniper should back up his team instead of shoot at random enemies from some remote corner of the map.
