They did this with a flight simulator once, it gradually learned how not to crash, they reckon this can easily be implemented to real planes.

Surely not with real brain tissue? Artificial neural networks have been around for quite some time, using the real thing was the cool part here.

I dont remember the details but they basically used a piece of melted rat brains on a circuit.

well, so long as you teach the thing how not to crash, then its ok, because, like a human pilot, it does everything it can to stop crashing. technically the thing is alive, so it will act in self-preservation just as a pilot would. and since it cant jump out, i'd say that it'd probably do a better job. plus, a bit of rat brain is hardly going to show up for work drunk
