EPIC Battles

Sergeant
So, I have just started the final war for total pendorian domination. It´s me (10 towns and surrounding castles) against the Ravens (8 towns). I have less lords but more powerful.

The war has just started and my first battle is about to begin. 3.500 of my troops against 3.700 raven ones which were besieging Ethos. It´s by far the biggest battle I have ever gotten in POP. Which have been your most epic battles regarding numbers?

Me against 17 demonic magnus when they killed all and i was trying to flank their weak soldiers not knowing what they were......sad day

What's your battlesize set to? I was playing around 150 till i got two midrange ati cards crossfired and upped it to 500. The results are *AMAZING*!
I think my most epic battle so far was 500 vs 1500 in a seige. Killed 1000, lost 100, 200 wounded. Everyone was too wounded to take out the stragglers. And the garrisoning isn't smart enough to give me non-wounded troops before the wounded ones *facepalm*

I usu stick about 3-5 noldor arrow into a demonic magnus from a rune bow with 10 power draw, before they go down. 17 would be difficult...

Hm.... My battlesize is smaller, about 200.  It was an army of 1800 Sarleon troops knocking on the door of my recently captured Laria.  (it had changed hands to the Empire, then recaptured, so it was an easy hit)  I had 60 Silvermists, 80 Ravenstern Rangers, 80 Empire Armored Crossbowmen, 50 Hero Adventurers, some meat troops that were on the bottom, so in total I had roughly 350.  Tactics does come in handy.  XD

It was almost unfair to watch.  The Silvermists (upgraded a few times) and the other units were all masters of the ranged attack.  I think in each wave at first.... a dozen actually made it to the ladder.  Each wave was roughly 120 enemies.  The sheer amount of firepower obliterated my enemies.  Then their archers took their toll, but in total I think it was roughly 40 dead, 100 wounded.  Nearly 1300 Sarleon men died that day.  This was pre-3.5 too.

The sheer amount of archery and brutal combat with the dozen guys who made it each wave was thrilling, because I didn't know if they would secure the wall or not with each wave.  I did get knocked out once.

My largest battle was a series of smaller battles (200 v 200) between Sarleon and Ravenstern. Not soon after they declared war on us, a massive army of 3,000 or so ran up to Ravenstern (The town) and proceeded to siege it. What followed was a scattered mess of small battles everywhere. After several different instances of fighting, what was left of us and Sarleon entered a battle of 500 v 500. We won with about 100 left, and no Red in sight. A fair majority of the lords left for their towns and castles with a party of 5 or lower .

In the current El Loco game (550 days into it):
The Kindom of Pendor (me) supported by 1 brave lord (who got - most likely off the Daughters of Persinoe) more than 300 nice troops attached versus the last remnants of the Kingdom of Sarleon - Sarleon.

Sarleon was pushed around pretty much and lost most of their territory pretty fast - despite my attempts to help them earlier. Me becoming independent was quite a struggle as I constantly warred with the D´Shar - and noone else declared on them.

When finally Fierdsvine took their opportunity and annected their lands, they offered peace and left me with 1 safe castle (the third or fourth I´ve taken in my vain attempt to carve my empire). A bit later, I tore another castle off D´Shar (again, a mulitfront war against D´Shar) and got peace offered.

Sarleon was my trusted ally during all of those harsh times, a safe haven to replenish troops, bargain for money and rest.
Until Ulric decided to declare war on me. Since his lords were exhausted all I had to do was to defeat him twice, which wasn´t t hat hard.

The ugly thing was Sarleon. Almost 800 soldiers garrisoned there, all heavy hitters. We ended up 600 vs 800, and it was an ugly, ugly battle. It took three attempts to finally take the walls (means till I relaised how to exploit the AI to lure them down the ladder).

It was awesome. And the nicest thing about Pendor Armoured Bowmen is they´re the sole troops who carry 2 packs of arrows instead of 1.

My battle size is 150. I was just talking about total numbers. By the way, the battle of 3500 of my boys against 3700 ravens went according to the plan. A massacre. I captured 11 raven lords. In this such long battles is extremely important that you are not knocked out, because the second time you are autoresolve kicks in (unless you choose to leave) with importnatn losses for you.

Well when you talk about numbers it's always gonna be about sieges lol.

I judge my "epic" fights on land-base battle.
Usually by the renown.
I once won a 42 renown match, and that was the only 40+ renown battlefield map i've won.
Think i used the hill tactic on that one, don't know any further details on that fight =x.

The really tricky ones are the 50+ reknown battles. 40-50 is beatable,  with the proper tactics, splendidly chosen terrain and party composition.

A thick cluster of heavy infantry, say Sarleon Man at Arms - Morningstars and Awlpikes - backupped by a decent amount of archers - like Pendor Armoured Archers (2x quivers) and little heavy cavalry to mop up the remainders.

Awesome and devastating. And quite funny how different battles can end if the terrain´s in/against your favour...

Wether or not a fight is epic is defined by the personal game  experience you gain out of it.
A lvl1 Alter Ego vs 5 Eventide Knights can be far more epic than a 1500 vs 400 standard siege defense.

And the large field battles usually force the player to stay alive and commandeer troops to enable victory and minimal casualities. This means little to no participation in the fray.

Who cares? It´s no virtual **** size competition, it´s all about the personal fun you get out  of this game. And that should be plainly worht the bucket spent on WB, given PoP´s for free and awesome.

I just led my 131-strong army against a Peasant Rebel Army, a huge mob of 1369 raging peasants. The first round spawned, in total, 27 of my troops (including me) against 309 enemies. By the time half the enemies were down, I was alone in the field against the rest. I spent the next hour lancing the bastards, one after another, till I finally won the round (and 50 renown), with a kill score of 188.

Round 2 was remarkably similar to Round 1, except that the mob managed to eventually bring down my horse. I still managed to kill many of them on foot, before my shield finally gave in and I was overwhelmed by the 22 surviving enemies. Obviously, I lost that round.

Fortunately, Ansen patched me up for Round 3. This was also the last round with Deserter-type enemies, and the first in which my troops actually managed to fight to the end, even if with a few casualties. The following 3 rounds were just a walk in the park, as we moped up the hundreds of remaining Militia Recruits. The last round had only 16 enemies, so, I parked my army in some corner and personally took revenge for my fall in Round 2 against them.

Obviously, the loot for that battle was absolute garbage. But it felt really cool to have beaten down a force 10 times larger than mine, and I got a whole lot of XP for all my kills (the party itself shared a whooping 32000 XP at the end of the battle). Also, I got the Deathbringer Achievement.

wow you guys are doing it wrong, my battlesize is at 600. THAT is some epic stuff.

my biggest battle so far was 1150 of my ravenstern allies against a ''The Three Seers'' army of 1300 units. That was awesome.

Where did you find that Peasant rebel army? First time I hear about that one

It can randomly spawn. I guess it's a generic army of the same "faction" of Alaric von Brouhaha, but led by a few Hero Adventurers instead. It doesn't appear on the Victory Conditions screen. Besides the HAs, it includes large numbers of Sarleon, Fierdsvain, Empire and Ravenstern Deserters, and a massive number of Militia Recruits.

Which is usually a GREAT opportunity to boost up your weakest weapon skill or go for a killing spree 2h weapon rampage and the mass murderer achievements.
