Eek the Ormeli are too strong at Darende :S

I have about 90 troops right now, most of it is Imperial State mixed with Radiant of the Cross Calvary and Other melee units.

At Darende, its easy to start the siege, but the problem with what I find is that the starting position for sieging is especially bad, and that my units who are mostly gunners get cut down fast by the Ormeli Archers ( pretty much on the map everyone ), The city is about 400 or so troops, but my troops get cuts to ribbon and I'm usually the last one standing. There is no position for my troops to fight back in reality and the Ormeli melee capabilities seem to be better than the Radiant of the Cross.

I wield the handcannon, shield and a mace at the moment, should I weld something else for the siege here? The problem is that I can infiltrate the castle, but I get cut down due to the archers being so good.

Do I need alot more troops if so how many? Or do I need to do something more drastic?

The best way to take down archers is with more archers. I had a similar problem with Kara-Khitan archers decimating my handgunner ranks during sieges, so I hired a few Nirdamesse longbowmen and added some Ormeli foot archers to my usual castle breaking retinue. We mopped the floor with the Lion Throne: just remember to hold some heavy infantry w/ shields in reserve, and put yourself into a position to camp the enemy spawn point as soon as possible.

Against Lion Throne, they arent too hard, likewise with Laurien Empire, the problem is the Ormeli Empire in general. Its easier to defend but really tough to go offensive over them. The only problem is that Ormeli troops are all melee with bows and arrows ( majority of them not all of them ). And they wear heavy armor as well which I find funny because they are in the desert so it'd be uncomfortable and all but meh .

The Nirdanese Archers are pretty rare arent they? And only through taverns right?

I dont get how Surgery = winning siege work?

Yes my troops go unconscious but the problem is having no troops in one siege. I I lose troops too fast when sieging Darende.... Does Surgery give more health to the troops to fight when sieging? :S.

When it comes to desert troops with armor, the Saracens and generel soldiery of middle east during the medieval period up to Renaissance wore just as much armor as their western counterparts. One difference is that eastern heavier cavalry tend to be lighter than the western knight to give some more mobility.
Only stupid white men go unclothed into a desert.

I always make sure surgery is at it's max when I level.
With every point invested there is a noticable difference in people being knocked out instead of dying. The Computer don't use this skill that I have noticed and a kill to them is a kill no matter what...

Even if you loose a battle you still win in the number of fatal casualties done.
By waiting for the next morning your wounded are back on their feet while "his" are 6 feet under.

My strategy is simple... Go siege and assault the enemy... Lose and lose moral...
Disengage siege and attack a random party to regain morale. Resupply troops if there is need.
Resiege...

Of course, if you can't wound them to begin with then try to bring a buddy along so numbers are more matched.

going in a siege with IS gunners is almost suicide...
get more melees....high surgery as said before is also very usable...
then get yoursefl a repeater rifle or a good bow..let your yoldiers hold...charge alone aand decimat6e their archers by yourself...but be careful..dont let your health drop too low..once they have no archers let your army charge und get yoursefl with a big 2h sword in the second row and slay em all...
if jeremus or sb else has a high skill in FA und doenst get knocked out..you yould probably kill the whole garrison by yourself..thats what i always do
