I'm just wondering how all you nerds (j/k!) know how to edit game files and stuff. I have always wanted to learn stuff like HTML coding and whatever else ,you get what I'm sayin',so could you let me know where to learn it?

HTML is used for coding web pages, and web pages only. Game are not programmed with HTML as it isn't a true programming language, so you could learn HTML (from books, or from htmlgoodies.com, or use a WYSIWYG editor like Frontpage) but this most likely wouldn't help you in editing any game files, other than give you a brief understanding of things like syntax and tags.

Ya i know a little bit of HTML and what it's for I was using that as an example, but ya it wasn't a very good one. Sorry

I have no idea how Mount & Blade is programmed or with which language, TBH you'd probably be best asking this question over in the Mod Discussion forum, or on the main M&B Discussion board.

Well, a lot of what modders and gamers in general do are really just simple changes to lines in config files and graphics data files etc.. Not that hard - although possibly time consuming on the more ambitous mods (so no offence to you modders) but my point is it require no special training.

I'm an engineer at Intel working mainly with hardware but I also do/have done a lot of software development and coding for work and for personal use. Then, it can be quite detailed and time-consuming to create exactly what you need and isn't something you'd "pick up" just on forums. Although, I have been a member of some hard-core forums frequented by experienced coders/designers/hackers/etc., if you're interested in advanced level training I'd seek those out. (sorry no recommendations because those forums are kinda snobby and hard-to-join anyway).

How did I start? I'd read tech stuff on the web, experiment, and go to the University's bookstore and read texts there.

Actually one of your responsers is female.
Be nice and correct yourself
Oh, and good luck with the modding

Just because I have a different gender doesn't mean that I can't be one of the guys, or deserve any sort of special treatment.

I want people to accept me as their unquestionable Pharaoh because I know best and can improve their lives, not because I am female.

But anyway, lets stop spamming his thread, since it has been answered.

C++ is the language used in most cd games where as java maybe used in web based (not cd games) games. I am (no, I believe I have - will see after the finals if I did) learning C in school, and that usually helps you understand the logic of programming where as it might be quite different than C++,java (if not really).

As for modelling, you get a modelling program from somewhere, for example 3d max, maya, blender etc. and start pulling stuff around or get your-self a tutorial and learn how to use it. 3d max tutorial is a quite good one to start, it can teach you some neat stuff in some few days or even hours.

My vote would also be C++ since whenever an error occurs, it says you need to refer to C++ this and that.
I seem to recall people mentioning the modeling for this being done in Blender.

That would be the end of how much I can help you. If I told you more I'd just be lying and instead of trying sounding intelligent (as I genuinely try to), I would come across as a jerk and idiot (as I always do).

Honestly I don't even know what I did to find this. I didn't even realize it's an old thread. :???: I should lay off the coffee.
