Editing font ?

Users who are viewing this thread

I would like to edit the current font. Unfortunately, all I get when I open comic_sans.tga is a blank image. Does anybody know how I could edit this font, or find a program that could handle that ???

Thanks.

Haha... Nevermind, I finally found it. Pure luck, really...

Just needs some work, but at least the new font is in.

I think just mask font file with your colour (to find out the where each letter is) and change each font to your liking manually.

Or, font info is stored in alpha channel.

I was first surprised the game uses comic sans. It is one of the most hated and ugliest fonts in universe (the guy who made it hates it, too).

Well, M&B handles it nicely, though.

The game doesn't use comic sans. Perhaps it used to, but the font used in game certainly is not it. I assume the name of the .tga is just a leftover.

Oh well, I was bored because everything I was doing didn't change anything : I was still getting that f**king blank image. I don't remember how I managed to find this.
Here is a JPEG copy of the file (warning: lossy format). As you see it's not comic sans at the top, comic sans is at the bottom but not used in game.

I tried to find the image again, and I finally succeeded. Here's the 'method' :
-Use Photoshop to open comic_sans.tga (I use Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0).
-Save as TGA under another name, with Photoshop.
-Open this new file with DXTBmp.
-Look at its Alpha channel, it's the image I uploaded on RapidShare.
-Open it, edit it and make the changes you want.
To save :
-Create a blank 1024x1024 image.
-Open it with DXTBmp and add the font in the Alpha channel.
-Save as Targa with Alpha.

There are several ways to edit the font, changing each letter manually is possible but very long and hard because you have to be precise. I'm going to write a guide on how to do it 'easily'.
The major problem with custom fonts is that the new letters have to be as large as the vanilla ones and be at a very precise place or they'll be cut like here. The file in Data called font1.txt seems to define the width for each letter, but it's be pretty hard to change it. I'll probably try that later, too.
