After a successful Warband Revival League which saw Commando Oida dominate all opposition to lift the trophy in the grand-final against Apis Europae, a part of the scene expressed the wish to stand aloof from division based format and attempt a return to traditionally more competitive and entertaining formats. Answering the call was most-established admin trio Aeronwen, Deacon & Scar who settled on bringing back one of warband greatest competition of all time, the European Championship Series.
With the help of Yamipirate and Bullez - who have both been instrumental in the success of recent tournaments - the ECS admin team intends to inspire a new breath within a warband competitive scene which has not yet been fully convinced by what Bannerlord currently offers for competitive grounds. Straying somewhat from the format which established the ECS has one of the most competitive tournaments in the scene, this fourth edition will have the challenging aim of creating more high-stakes matches than recent competitions did, without risking to exclude smaller teams in the early stages.
The tournament's structure has been therefore reworked, with the first 12 seeded teams being spread in three different groups, A, B & C whereas the 7 remaining ones will fight each other in Group D. This should hopefully provide for a fair middle-ground where most encounters remain exciting and where the less experienced teams don't exit the tournament after two stomps.
With the group stage now finished and each of the different ladders (Challenger, Master & Championship) about to begin, here is a preview of one of tonight's championship match, Backline Tactics vs Kebab Tactics.

Now four weeks in the tournament, we are excited to present you what could potentially be an absolute banger tonight, with the enemies brothers from Backline & Kebab Tactics facing one another, counting for their first match in the Championship Group. Both teams succeed in topping group A & C respectively although it must be said that KT did it with much more ease, only dropping three rounds out of two matches whereas BT had to battle their ways against a powerful Snus Gang team in the winner match-up. The different performance both teams had in their groups precisely represents the theoric gap there is between them. Obviously, looking at both rosters, you can see legendaries players in each squad, all battle-hardened veterans, experienced with the highest level of competition on warband. But if you delve more into it, you will acknowledge that KB - created for this very tournament - holds every feature of the squad meant to rival the dominance Commanda Oida (Unity) have started to establish past tournaments. On BT's side, the experience and tactical acknowledge brought by their captain, Charlini, is a recipe for success but some of its players are no longer at the top of their form, as seen in recent tournaments. Although the game-sense is still uncountably there for Backline Tactics, the skill gap will definitely favour their opponent and despite what I expect to be strong mutual respect between many players on both squads, KB needs that win if they intend to compete for the title of European Championship Season 4.
With that being said, Backline Tactics is not an opponent they can underestimate and from the result of that match, it will be interesting to see how confident both squads are looking, as the race for the top of the Championship Group has only just begun. With the recent addition of Apfel to their ranks, BT definitely strengthened their infantry department and there is a world in which KT can be caught off guard by BT. Overall, however, the KT roster possesses very little flaws and I do expect them to come on top of that encounter. We will be starting with River Village, Sarranids vs Rhodoks and follow-up with the never getting old San'di'boush, Rhodoks vs Swadia.
