East Anglian Troop Tree

Right, I am currently playing with the East Anglian faction but I somehow can't figure out how to get Thegns? When I get peasants, I can upgrade them to Skirmishers - who then proceeds to bowmen and end there, or Fyrdmen - who will upgrade twice to reach Veteran Fyrdmen. However, there seems to be a third troop tree, since I got an East Anglian Thegn, who was captured by an enemy. So is the the only way to access those troops, to save them from enemy lords?

You recruit them from taverns in cities - go upstairs and talk to the reeve, who will be able to hire Geoguth for you - they are the bottom end of the noble troop tree for the Saxons. They upgrade to thegns.
