SP Fantasy Earthsea Mod

Thank you, All of You...Jubal, I will be taking you up on that...I learned a thing ot two about manners at the TWC and my temper hasn't changed a bit. I like that we can be ourselves here.

As for factions I intend to follow up on the descriptor/FAQ from Wikipedia...it gives a tight little essay on cultures...Roke has its wizards and they will be masters of battle as well. It seems that the world is a mixed variety of peoples, so most islands will have this variety. I intend to make interpersonal communication a hallmark of this mod.

You will not go to be a Wizard, you will be found...otherwise..you character will live in the mundane world of Earthsea. However, becoming a witch(women are especially prone) or sorceror or seer healer or other 'hedge wizard' is still possible assume you have someone to teach you...

Novice(L1) -> Student(L5) -> Sorceror(L10) -> Minor Adept(L15) -> Major Adept(L20) -> Wizard(L25) -> Archmage(L50)

Archmages will be elected when the time is right by Roke proctor-wizards(ie death-{yes, I said death}-, retirement, popularity). You have to ba a full Wizard to be a proctor and be a proctor to be come Archmage.

Minor(BA/BS)/Major(MBA/MBS) Adepts are wizards by rights and have received the full benefit of education...Wizards(PhD) are the true magicians as they have honed their skills either to specialist or generalist views.

The magic system of Earthsea seems to be an oral/gestured system...so I will make a list of commands...that will be checked by an order of magnitude.

I am not here to impress anyone...Earthsea is an open-ended world, a good fit for this game...

Though I like that people read the threads here...

Key to this mod, as far as plots, will be;

Dissolution of Women from Roke
The High King of Havnor
The Khargad
The Ancients
Dragons
Claimants of Pendor and Selidor
The Circle of Nine(nemesis to Roke) - this last is an addition of my own...I have often wondered if Ursula K. Leguin    meant for Earthsea to be a shared world like Thieve's World...

Not to sound rude, but without any solid proof, expect your claims to be taken with a grain of salt.

What's supposed to mean? If you want to see the mod, you'll just have to wait won't you? Especially if you are not going to help. To let you know a little something I run the 'The Long Road' mod at the www.twcenter.net forums...and modding M&B is really not that hard.

I think he means this is a "zero-content thread". You didn't include ideas, plans, status, or even the information about what Earthsea even was (only in the third post did you even explain it). Basically, you've said you'd create a mod but haven't done anything to prove so. At least show some ideas for it. E:TW mods and M&B mods are two entirely different things also.

Well... if you're after the background ideas, do read the quartet. They're really honestly stunning books, well worth a look.

You don't read too well do you? I put plenty of info on the mod up already. Read everything. Jubal has the best idea.

I will do my very best to include everything for this mod from the books....Most important will be the School of Wizardry...I will post more details when I have more research done.

Just a wild guess, but I think he's going to try to include everything featured in the books and intends to put a lot of detail into the School of Wizardry. He may even be intending to post more details later.

  LOL, Moss...

What I really want to bring to the fore is a system by which to generate NPCs and Heroes...complete with Names/Truenames.
If you can 'find' the true name a thing, you can control that thing - this is central to Earthsea magic -

Making items and places accessible in scenes will also be important - for variety and for purposes of magic and combat. For instance find a stick and turn it into a staff, a knife into a sword - similarly, Ged(protagonist in the series) takes a blade of grass and makes a new staff after a demon destroyed his old one...

Taverns will be places to rest and eat as well as meet and acquire...markets are to be made, faires and bizaars...

Things will seek you out for good or for evil.

I intend at some point to include an Oracle - which means a 3 dimensional Zodiac(birth sign-general, sun sign-active and  moon sign-passive) - for Seers and people wanting to know their character's destiny. That is a long way off.

Kingdom of Pendor? There's a mod called prophecy of pendor but i guess thats not the same...

Yes. Pendor is a place in Earthsea...

I intend to make assassins possible for both Players and AI.

Many castles/towns/villages will be rebel at the beginning and hard to take as armies will be large. In my version of Hundred Years' War mod...You start off with a base party of 100 persons, and each point of Leadership guarantees an additional hundred persons and renown gets you an additional person per point...I would make that 10persons if I could.

My largest battle in Hundred Years War mod had over 3000persons in it and I was fighting at max...ie 1000persons. I have seen some larger armies...

"I'm going to add soldiers and a new map" followed by an excessive number of "..."s isn't plenty of information.

Basic information like this is good actually.

I'd rather not see armies that are too vast, simply because those of us on slightly lower-end PCs will actually die. Just my own position, though.

Army size is moddable...

I have an AMD 2500+ chip(1.87GHz) with a Gigabyte AGP mobo
an AGP Nvidia 7300GT 512MB Vcard
  2GB DDR400
  1GB Flash Drive

  ...in other words a 'dinosaur'!

If I set my battles to 3-400person battles I get from 8-20fps. You gotta know your machine. I work in the field.

I would of thought you'd work behind a desk instead of in a field. A modding farmer? I wanted to play your MTW2 mod, it looked awesome. But at the time when I was really interested it hadn't been released yet.

Well thank you, I think...

The reality is that I have nothing to prove to you...or anyone else...I am not here to hold your hand or gloss it over for you...suffice to say that I have begun the work and someday, life permitting, it will be done. Thank you for the compliment as for the rest, if it sounds like *****in', it is *****in'...I get enough of that from my mom, my sister, whatever girlfriend I have at the time...etc. Spare me.

My biggest gripe with it now is how arrogant and dismissing he seems. But then he stated in another post on the second page about how he could be himself here, and I took it to mean that's how he is in real life. Makes me almost wish I'd continue lurking rather than posting if this is what I get for trying to give constructive criticism. xD But then again, this is the internet. Manners are rare on the internet. But yes, you pretty much got what I meant. He seems to have big plans and revolutionary systems for the mod, many of which probably aren't easy to code. The lack of anything concrete in his first post was rather off-putting. If he had something of sustenance there, more people might be interested in the mod.

seoman, the True Name and Call Name system sounds interesting. About the only thing that bothers me is that typing out/having to remember all the names would be a bit of a chore, especially if you did it in the middle of a battle. I'm guessing you would have a log of sorts to keep track of the True Name - Call Name relation? Also, there's an application that lets you send a command into the game via voice. The link to the thread is here. Also, I'm curious on one thing. Sparrowhawk once went out to take down a dragon. Will there be any in the mod? Also, what about the tombs? Will we be able to visit them and maybe loot some treasure, always assuming we can escape from the maze?

My "gripes" about the mod is also how arrogant he is. He's a pompous braggart who's making everyone know this mod will be ever-so-good just because he's modded a Total War game before, yet we have no content nor ideas save for the statement "I'll add more soldiers and a new map". I don't even know what this bloody Earthsea subject is entirely, he's not given anything to back it up. "I'm going to add soldiers, a map, ability to fly, sea battles, Sparrowhawk, etc."? Where's this all coming from? Flying? This sounds more like a mish-mash of fantasy and fighting ideas mixed together without any explanation. His excessive usage of periods after every other sentence is annoying also.

Again.
He doesn't need to prove he can make the mod. He's not asking for anyone's help, he's not asking anyone to do anything. Sure he could have made a more informative first post, but he didn't really need to. Most of the people who've posted here know what "Earthsea" means, for those who don't I've heard there's a nifty thing called a "search engine".

Although it's nice to have a comprehensive first post that'll tell you everything that's planned for the mod, it's clearly in the early days of development and nothing is set in stone yet, so that's completely pointless. Maybe he'll realise that many of the things he has planned are quite difficult to do, maybe he'll shift his focus as he gains more experience and knowledge of the engine and decide to make something different, maybe he'll give up and the mod will never see the light of day, none of that matters though because he hasn't promised anything and he hasn't asked for anything. All he's done is make a thread saying "I'm working on this mod".

And I can't exactly see how he's been arrogant or a pompous braggart. Mount & Blade is easier to mod than many other games, that's how it was built, to be modder friendly. Sure he's got some ambitious ideas but none of them are impossible if he's willing to put in the hard yards. It won't be out next week, but he never promised that. And if you've got problems with flying in Mount&Blade I'd suggest you take it up with the four other mods that already have it implemented.

Regardless of any of that, if you don't like the mod concept or mod maker you know what's more productive than flaming and trolling the thread? Going elsewhere.

I'm not sure if you've noticed, but I've been trying to be polite and helpful. I've given ideas and I'm not trying to be flaming or trolling. However, the parts that I intended to be helpful are being completely ignored,  and only my honest thoughts on the attitude of the OP are being taken into account, and it seems like I'm being made out to be the villain. Also, while his first post might not be informative, it's not a hard deal to edit it. I have read the books, as my last post here proves. The Tombs where Sparrowhawk met the Prince (Or was it princess? It's been about four years) and the killing of the dragon of Pendor aren't things that most people would know if they didn't know anything about Earthsea.

Still, it would seem that trying to defend my position is as futile as trying to move a mountain with my breath. If you don't want me to give my input in this mod, then I will take it elsewhere where it will be appreciated and not taken as offensive.

Sorry, no offense intended, I disagree with you on points but at least you're polite and and helpfull, I was talking to this guy.
