EA takes helm from LucasArts, will exclusively develop future 'Star Wars' games

It's not totally bad. At least DICE, Bioware and Visceral will actually develop games. Lucas Arts wasn't doing much. EA's business practices though, that's worrying.

Did I just read that they're focusing on mobile and social games.

Incoming Farmville: Star Wars

Yay! I've always wanted to hire actual scruffy looking nerf herders.
I can't get this out of my head now:

Holy ****, when will people realize that no gives a flying **** about mobile or social games? You can point to a chart saying that the latest Angry Bids spin-off sold great, but it's just a matter of time before these games hit their maximum capacity and people quit playing them. Mark my words.

Personally, I hope EA will develop "original" titles, so that they won't corrupt the good games like Battlefront/Jedi Knight/KOTOR etc.

They said they would be making games for core gamers. They probably wouldn't confuse core with casual.

I'm also curious if the new leadership over at EA will result in some less ****headery. The new "acting" CEO owns most of the stocks of EA, which are doing horribly right now.

Disney would handle all the social games. Also whilst the usual EA hate train steams on they just announced they won't be paying for firearms licences in their games anymore, but will still continue to use the name. Thank the heavens, I wouldn't know what to do if my E-11 blaster rifle was called a klobb.

Fixed for a 90s flashback.

Mark my words.
It didn't really work that way, and neither will casual games simply go away.

You can't really compare music and video games.

Either way, I'd say pop is way more popular than rap. The 90's were all about rap, but it's been winding down for sure.

Here's the thing, Disney is focusing on what they always have, samming innocent children, even though the fact is that the people paying for Star Wars are adult fans and collectors.

You can't compare music to video games man

If anything, this makes it even more attractive.

Mobile/Social games cost less to make. If people move on from one big thing to another, that also means develop doesn't have to maintain the game as long.

So, in theory, EA could make 2-3 of these each year, and make big bucks as people go crazy over each one for 3-4 months each.
