E3 2017 - It's that time of year again

Kind of interesting so far. Interested in The Last Night, and was amused by the kerfuffle from some corners of the 'net about some innocuous twits the creative director of the game made on Twattle back in 2014. Bothers me that they're so quick to capitulate to bull**** outrage generators, though.

How do you guys feel about Bethesda's "Creation Club"?
Looks like they've taken the idea of micro-purchases in online games to single player games, like Skyrim and Fallout. Clever.

Difference (or problem?) is they won't be giving the 'modders' money based on the sales, but fixed amounts based on milestones involved in the creation of the content. So basically a wage, rather than royalties from selling the product. Seems a little odd, and it's hard to tell exactly where it'll go but it looks like they're trying to go for a 'hire modders to make exclusive content and sell it' rather than 'sell modders content and let them keep 30% of the profits'.

Looks like they're trying to be careful after the steam mods fiasco, but may have actually gone a route that gives them more than the modder ever will. Not against modders being paid for their work at all, but I think it is the sort of thing that needs to be handled very carefully, or it could kill the modding community as we know it in favour of what you get with games like Rust and Dota.

Bethesda should go and suck flaccid cock.

Well, the upside is that the content creators won't require tools like F4SE to do fancy stuff and likely will have access to in-house tools. Which probably means content similar to what we saw way back in the Modjam for Skyrim. However, it's too early to tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing, and it is more likely the latter than the former given the reaction from modders and users alike so far.

As much as I understand the problem with finances when it comes to modding(Can't even take donations because my mod is a copyrighted IP...), I don't think I would want to mod somewhere that has some content paid for, and other not. It's a hobby, and those that are really good just use it as a stepping ladder for real development anyway.

On the other hand, there can be some really entitled ****s players who can't grasp the concept of rewarding someone who spent hundreds, thousands hours into something they get for free, according to the discussions.

But this isn't the way to handle it, in my opinion and I am really against paid mods.

It's not clear who they'll hire (3rd. party) to make the content.
Technically it'll be professionals since they make money doing it.
Realistically you can imagine Bethesda reaching out to top-tier modders to make content,
and then you have top modders going pro, and free mods of lower quality. In the end it might hurt the modding community...

Unless more people get into modding in the hope that they'll make money off it, saturating the market. Competition means some paid modders don't make anything and go back to just doing it for free. Or something. I didn't study much economics as you can tell .

Edit: In terms of the 'top' modders you're probably right though.

What makes you think Bethesda would want to invest in the modders ability to make mods before grabbing that sweet sweet cash?
This is about creating extra profit from nothing and most certainly not a service to the users or content creators.

Well, giving them the tools to create better content than what is already up is in their interest for money making (and has more or less been suggested to be the case) - otherwise people will stick with the free content. However, I think the only party that will win in all of this is Beth.

Wow, talk about anticlimactic. Sony dropped the ****ing ball on their event, their big reveal was a "press X to Awesome" Spiderman-game.

Devolver really did win E3.

Looks just like Black Flags naval combat but multiplayer.
Interesting game but the Black Flag flashbacks. Holy **** it's down to a tee, the same camera angle when sailing, the first mate giving orders next to your side. Guess Ubisoft wants to make the most of the naval combat they improved on and further refine it for this game. Figures this game would have nothing to do with AC IV: Black Flag, story wise. Only mechanically similar.

Call of Duty WW2:

Crimea - Soviet Union - So, it means that when I guessed there would have been soviets after all after I've seen a glimpse of an SVT 40 in the trailer I was right? YEEEESH.

I was also right on Aachen as the german town.

The graphics in this new trailer doesn't look too great, though. Also, it seems that the multiplayer allied team will have random americans french english and soviets fighting alongside in each and every map. Meh. Also germans with gasmasks outside Wolfenstein are laaaaaame.

This looks interesting. I wouldn't mind it if it were a bit more realistic, but it looks like it could be fun nonetheless.

Hugely dissapointed, a game that was similar to Black Flag in mechanics but more akin to Sid Meiers Pirates! would be far better and more fun.

Looks like For Honor style multiplayer and you can all see how that's gonna turn out.
