Since im upgrading my comp for gaming, i need dx10. I should have it but i only have 9c.

Im getting a Nvidia 9800GTX next week so dx10 should come with it right?

And is there any real noticeable difference in games with dx10? Pics?

Thanks,
thedude.

edit: sorry if its in wrong section. It had to do with games...

You need Vista for DX10, and YES, it is VERY noticeable.

Vista ships with DX10. It's easy to tell whether you have it installed or not, because without DX10 Aero won't function. Basically, if you have a desktop which doesn't look like Windows XP trying to emulate Windows 98, then you've got DX10 installed.

If you have a graphics card later than the 8800 Geforce then it should support DX10. The 9xxx series should support 10.1. Microsoft are about to release DX11 though, so I wouldn't bother upgrading just yet.

All DX10 really adds is support for Shader Model 4.0, which while technically interesting boils down to basically finer graded shading which makes materials look a bit like the materials they're supposed to be rather than coloured blobs. It's particularly handy for fur and similar, but to be honest there's not that many games which make much use of it.

Microsoft also claim it boosts performance over DX9, which to be honest is true in some games and not in others. Crysis and Fallout 3 perform better with DX10; HL2 and Spore don't.

First one is fine, but the second one, with MIcrosoft flight sim is photoshopped.

edit: real picture vs crysis on full with dx10:

Not fake, not shopped.
