DVD drive problem

I have a problem with my DVD drive, it was fine until a few weeks ago but now it's totally screwed. Basically it doesn't want to open, when I press the eject button it tries to open, clicks, whirrs and then stops again. I've poked about inside but that came to nothing, anyone have any idea of how to fix it or would it just be better to replace it?
