Recruit
Summary: When starting a siege battle, all of my troops get auto-assigned to only 2 large formations with mixed troop types, so I have ranged and melee units bunched together in one formation making it nearly impossible to appy any strategic and tactics to the battle when my ranged units charge into melee combat or my melee units idly stand around with ranged units shooting at enemies on the walls. Occasionally the auto-assignment worked when I got 5 different formations sorted by troop type as it should be, but most of the time now it's just like in the screenshot.
How to Reproduce: Start an offensive siege battle.
Have you used cheats and if so which: No, but cheats are enabled.

Hey, i have forwarded the issue to the QA team. Thank you for reporting it in and for your time.

Does the same thing in 1.7 beta too, despite the order of battle screen showing other wise, once you give and order in siege battle you get 2 big mixed troops, the most notable problem in this is it makes it un-able to position ranged troops will non-range are sent up ladders first. This problem continues as it seems the game intends for group 1 to go up one set of ladders and group 2 the other, meaning you cannot send a group up each ladder AND have a group giving ranged support to both, even if you tolerate the mixed gruops.

I have just figured something out, the issue I described earlier only occurs when I go into the siege battle while having a bow or crossbow equipped. It doesn't look like it matters what bow/crossbow and if I also have arrows/bolts equipped, if I start a siege battle with it the formations are messed up. When I have just melee or also some javelins equipped then the formations are as they should be, properly divided by troop type and split into all available groups. I don't know how the game mechanics work, but maybe because I have a ranged (non throwing) weapon equipped, the game recognizes me as a ranged unit and somehow that messes with the formation assignment, even though I, as the party leader, don't (or shouldn't) belong to any group or troop type.

Scratch that, now this doesn't work either, looks like it was just random, although I had tried it a couple of times and thought I was onto something.

Hey, i have been informed that this issue is fixed and the fix will be applied with further patches. Sorry for any inconvenience.
