Okay, I'll be honest. This is a bit of shameless viral marketing, but not really. I didn't make this, I don't personally know anyone on the team who made this, I just want more people to know about it.
Dungeonslayers is a German-made free pen & paper RPG whose core rules is only 20 pages long. Twenty pages jam packed with enough rules to play out old school type sessions. The wonder of this system is that all you need is a d20. Sure, the races are basic (Human, Dwarf or Elf), the classes are minimal (Fighter, Scout or Spellcaster) and there are only twenty or so creatures in the bestiary. However, this game is far from dull or incomplete.
The simple rules allow characters to be created within minutes and combat to be fast paced. Everything else is sort of fuzzy and unclear, sort of like old D&D. But that was the charm of old-school RPGs, you can make stuff up.
I decided to promote this to fellow M&B players because the system reminds me a lot like M&B. It's simple and bare yet functional and thus highly moddable. The English forums might still be very young, but what I've seen in the German forums is amazing. Dungeons, campaign settings, rules for firearms, extra spells and classes. All for free! (Except for internet connection and printing costs, of course.) One contributor has even made a Pulp WWII setting with heroic Allied commandos and evil scientists.
