Dulled weapons

I have read many of the posts here, but not all of them so I apologize if this is a repeat.

I have noticed some posts about weapons and armor degrading and breaking over time if not repaired by a black smith, but I have not noticed weapons getting dull from use. A sword may break if thwacked against a shield, sword, tree, rock etc. but if you routinely cut a man to the bone with one it will become dull long before it breaks. I would like to see weapons that dull over time and possibly to the point where the damage becomes blunt. This could be remedied by carrying wet stone with you.

Thats a pritty good idea because if u could make a sow go dull it could be like the ultimate blunt weapon. But i dont want to see weapons break or anything unless at ever city u can get them repaired.

That's the good thing with blunt weapons, they don't get dull. But well a shaft of a maul could break (if not made out of metal).

I think if edged weapons dulled there would be more of a use for a good blunt weapon. A dulled arming sword or falchion would do far less blunt damage than a warhammer.

Not many true warriors or soldiers would ever let their weapon go broken and unrepaired, or dirty for that matter. It's the one thing that helps keep you alive on the battlefield..only thru disuse would it become dulled.

thats what most soldiers do when they've got nothing to do... sharp their swords.. shine the helmets...

True. It's part of all the micromanagement the game assumes you do between battles, because it'd be too bloody tedious to have to do stuff like that yourself. If you required of the player to keep track on stuff like that, you might as well require of them to repair his saddle after every other fight, to make sure they're carrying flint and tinder to light a fire and to go to the bathroom (bush?) every now and then, or their bladder will burst..

blah...sounds too much like the sims... but maybe on the side of dulling etc. maybe when you run out of arrows you could use your bow as a staff or crossbow as a club....

Yeah thats actually a good idea, like if they ever implement weapon break or bowstrings snapping u could still use yer bow as a weapon.

I like to pretend that I take care of my weapons and keep them sharp, and clean the blood off of them so much that they don't get a chance to get rusty, and if they get chipped or bent I replace them even though it isn't in the merchant menu. With such a good suit of armor and such well maintained weapons that merchant won't complain if he knows what's good for him. He's just some sissy merchant after all.

I like the idea of having ranged weapons being useful shorty-range. Probably not too much you could do with a longbow shortrange. It might be nice to have the ability to pair two weapons together, like a bow and a dagger, cause I dont know why anyone would use a dagger, unless they just didnt have any money at all.
P.S. kinda random, but when you upgrade your inventory skill, it would be nice if you could carry more weapons. kind of annoying to have to choose between bow and sword.

You already can pair weapons. Put a bow in one slot, your arrows in another, and your secondary weapon in a third. The fourth slot can be another weapon, a shield, or more arrows. Well, or another bow if you want, but that seems kind of redundant.

Anyway, I agree with MMad's point of not making the player deal with the little everyday tasks that a soldier would busy himself with. As it is our arrow quivers refill themselves, our troops feed themselves and our shields repair themselves. I would not disagree that weapons should eventually break, but I think we can assume the day-to-day maintenance happens on its own.

Edit: Ah, now that I've looked at your other post, I realize you were talking about having something like a bow with a dagger included that you can switch to. I guess that's not such a bad idea -- it shouldn't be that hard to find some miscellaneous place on a person where you can strap a dagger he can use in an emergency.

They should add another place just for a dagger  That would be pretty cool and it would be quite realistic.
