Dragon Age: Inquisition

So they gave us trailers yesterday:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dogIKwZA7Ac - environments
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2WA0oAz_Z0 - companions

This was why I was waiting for 2014 E3 but I'm not very happy about how it looks. Sort of disappointed at the amount of cliche thrown in my face. Those dogooder characters are getting on my nerves, I mean who am I even gonna bring with me? In my first playthrough I'll make sure to angry**** Cassandra just to get the ***** to stop talking for once. Eh, on the other hand the environments look ok I guess.

They've made it sound better than the rest promising to merge the good points of the first with the second (removing that mess from 2 in the process). I have several issues with this series and I'm gonna get severely disappointed  if this turns out to be ****, Bioware's gonna be dead to me if that happens. I really do hope they somehow patch this up and provide a really good game experience and not just another mediocre turd I am gonna put in the shelf.

Meh, the character you probably empathize most with is the Breach, anyway.

Well, just about the first thing I noticed is that floating weapons will be making a return. That probably tells you something about how much faith I have in those trailers showing anything relevant about the game.

They... gave away the complete companion backstory quest-lines with those short descriptions
If you've played any recent EAware game and hear those words you know how they will all play out.
Also aren't elves supposed to be beautiful in EAware games? That one looks like a human with a serious birth defect.

Honestly, I don't get why people are excited about this after DA2. The trailer shows you nothing of the gameplay - apart from some really awkward combat animations by that dorf that we can likely expect to be in - so we can expect it to be the exact same stuff like last time.
Granted, the art-style looks better IMO.

They showed some dragon battle gameplay, or as I call it: not-as-good-as-dragons-dogma-gameplay.

The only things I liked about the dragon combat that they showed earlier were some of the fire effects. Everything else looked kinda meh, bordering on suck-y.

edit: No offence. I'm speaking as someone who's never played a Dragon Age game, and is looking to see if this one might be worth jumping in to.

I thought Origins was a pretty solid game. I have some 200 hours played on it, after all. It wasn't masterful in any way and was outright horrifying in some ways.
I skipped out on DA2 because reasons. Do I seriously have to elaborate?
Think I might skip out on this one as well.

I'd skip over this game if I had anything to skip to. Unfortunately, this is probably the "best" we're going to get.

Apparently the main story is about 50 hours.
According to Laidlaw, the game will take about fifty hours to complete if you ignore every sidequest and just burn through the story content.

That's not bad, considering some of my favourite RPGs only take maybe 60 or so hours to complete.

It's also extremely likely a lie. Laidlaw has a history of distorting facts.

Pillars of Eternity? Wasteland 2? Torment: Numenera? Blackguards 2? Shadowrun Returns will have second expansion by next Jan/Feb, you know. Age of Decadence should be out in four or five months as well. Those from the top of my head. There's a lot of promising RPG's coming out - absolutely no reason to waste money on this crap. Heck, Witcher 3 is coming soon(ish) as well, and will absolutely blow this out of the water when it comes to eye candy.

Hell no. If you really want to play Dragon Age, get the Origins Ultimate Edition. It's probably dirt cheap by now, there's a bunch of mods (mostly nude/sex/romance because Bioware fans are perverts) and as Untitled wrote, is best of the bunch, though that still leaves it firmly in the "depressingly average" category.

I got the ultimate edition for 5 bucks 2 Years ago! Maybe they're handing it out for free by now.

Gameplay from the E3 demo.

And yes, I'm posting a link to the article instead of to the YT video itself because they put a stupid age restriction on the video itself because all the poor, innocent little children on the internet and every sorry sonofa***** without a YT account with a listed age that's over the restriction (or without a YT account, period) should be protected from the terrible sight of a fantasy mages-vs-dragon battle in a video game with glitches and a designed-for-consoles UI which I sincerely hope they don't use in the PC version.

And yes, I'm in a mood to rant all of a sudden.

You just following me around and criticising the jokes I make now?

Oh, sorry, didn't realize that I filled my individual quota for pointing out when you in particular say something dumb.

I dunno looks alright from the gameplay. I'm not amazed or anything but it looks like it could be more fun than DA2 which was a right chore at times.
