Sergeant at Arms
Hi, I have tried to search, but i'm not entriely sure what to search for, so my lame attempts are coming up dry.
I've been playing around with a personal mod, adding new items and such and as the items txt appears to have a limited space or number of items it can take, I tried to delete a few native items I never use (in my mod folder, not the native folder, all my other mods seem ok) and added the new ones in they're place.  It worked fine and the new items are in, but  it also seems to have moved all the inventry start items for all the troops, including the player.  Now, everyone else I can fix to my liking in the unofficial editor, but I have no idea how to change the player's starting inventory.

Help me please, my hero is running around in a pink dress and turban with wool in his inventory.  You can't eat wool.

I'm mostly using the unofficial editor, but I've started picking up some simple things in pythons from a few of the basic tutorials marvelous people have made, so with detailed explanantion I should be able to work with that, if that's what's needed.  For this little mod it's not important, I'm just playing around, but obviously I'd like to know how to stop the problem when I try something more serious.

oh, and should this be in another board?  it's still hard to tell what goes where sometimes.

Or download the official module system and extract to native directory.

Why to the native directory?  I have it in my main m&b folder.  I'm learning how to use it, slowly (have to go away for a week  miss my computer already.  Not even the game as much as the cool modding I'm learning).  I can put scenes behind passages and doors (with a whole lot of trial and error, but I'm getting there), the new objects I made don't show up once in game or else can't load and crash (I'll get onto that with the tut that's around once I'm back), but ones from other mods work fine, except they budge everything up the list (or down, depending where I put them).  I'll try that with the official mod system as soon as I get back and see if that works better (I'll post results here for any other technospastic like myself who likes to know what works)

and to the chap who directed me to the menus in the unofficial editor - Thanks very much, I didn't even look there.  I spent an hour last night redoing the starting gear,  sheesh I love this game.  When a new upgrade comes up, I'm keeping .751 separate to mod with, such marvelous, endless possibilities, even for someone as useless as me.

ciao

I think Raz mean to compile it into the Native directory by running the build_module.bat
Then you'll have a new copy of the native items file.

The items.txt is not limited in the number of items, but you need to make sure the number in the beginning of the items.txt is the correct number of items. So if you add 3 new items, you need to increase the number by 3.
Also add your items at the end of the file and not in the middle, then you will avoid the problem with all the items being shifted.

Ta very much, it's little things like that I need to know.

By the way, Expanded Gameplay rocks, I still tear hair out at the training.

I hate dial-up (I'm at my nan's, she refuses to get broadband because she reckons that she only uses the internet for email.  Problem is that with Australian connection rates it takes about two minutes to load a small screen cap, that and her BRAND NEW computer already has CRAP all over it (sorry, had to winge to someone, pay no attention to me, anyone who reads this, I'm just spouting)).
