Doesn't run anymore...

I was fiddling around with stuff on my computer, just adding some mods to some games and installing new games, never messing around with anything I knew I didn't understand or anything. Now, whenever I try and run Mount&Blade, I get an error message after clicking on the icon. The error message says:

MOUNT&BLADE caused an exception 05H in module <unknown> at 0000:05c306ae.

A lot of my other programs give me similar errors now too, but I don't know if it's caused by the same thing or what. Any ideas about how to fix this would be welcome. I've already uninstalled/reinstalled the game, re installed direct X, I can't figure out what's wrong with my computer.

After some quick searching I only found one other referance to your problem, and in that case the guy reinstalled windows. I'd suggest backing up important stuff and installers then reformat and reinstall.

I reformatted my computer, reinstaleld all my drivers and junk, and Mount and Blade still will not run. It doesn't give em any kind of error messages though, now it brings me to a blank screen, gives em a blue screen of death, or just reboots my system completely.

I think it might be a problem with my computer rather than with the program, because Tropico refuses to run either, in fact about 60% of my games (or more) refuse to run, and to top it all off my CD-ROM is bugging out again.

Any ideas on how to ressessitate my computer? I'm a bit too poor right now to replace it.

Okay then, try taking a stick of memory out if you've got more than one, then starting your pc with the other(s). Repeat this for each memory stick. Now call up a friend who has a graphics card and swap them, etc etc until you find what's causing the problem. If none of this works, it's probably your mobo.

Make sure to ground yourself - look up some guides on the net before you attempt to fiddle inside the box. I'd say it's most likely a graphics card or memory problem (mabye even a mobo prob?). If it is a hardware problem, that is. Do make sure that you have virusscanned and stuff.

Remember that I am not a technical consultant therefore I cannot accept responsibility for any damages done to your computer from following this advice. However, It's not hard to fiddle inside a pc safely.

It could also be that your CD-ROM is messed up. Ive had problems with my games that wouldnt start up, or I couldnt burn onto CDs. It never crashed my system though. I just bought a new CD-ROM drive and all was good.

I think it might be the insane amount of dust clinging to everything inside the case. I know my CD-ROM is messed up, and I'm ripping one from an older computer and shoving it into this one, which should solve the CD-ROM problem. I doubt the CD-ROM is affecting Mount and Blade though, since the game doesn't use the CD-ROM at all.

I really hope it isn't my graphics card or my memory, those are the only parts of my computer that are new. It might be the motherboard... I half hope that it is really, because that'd give me a nice way of convincing my parents to buy me a new computer, or at least buy me new parts to put into this one.

Hardware sucks.

I swapped my CD-ROM out with another one, and now my computer cannot find a CD-ROM drive at all. Don't know why really, they're practically identical CD-ROMs (except the new one should be working). Didn't help Mount and Blade at all either.

Make sure you are using the right cable (It should not be one connected to the hard drive) and you have the configuration jumpers set correctly, also make sure that you have it plugged in to the power and the audio out into your sound card.

I've plugged it exactly the way my old one was plugged in (newest theory is that the laser got weak on it), it might be the jumper settings, but I have no idea how to fix those, or really what they are exactly...

Well look at both cd-rom drives and compare the jumpers.

It'll look kinda like that.

Take out the plastic bit and place it in the same position as your other one.
