Does the journal have any use in game?

Users who are viewing this thread

I've actually been wondering this for quite some time myself. I just always forgot to ask. So thanks for bringing this up fasader!

Anyway, does someone know? Chel?!

I don't think it does anything yet. I think it used to enable you to hire starting-class specific units.

currently no, it does not have a use.

In EGII the journal was needed to hire special units, this was not obvious and only became apparent once you lost the journal. It took people some time to figure that out  then I coded it to work a different way but kept the journal for fun.
Now added it to EGIII as a joke / remembrance

Hey! You have told us back in the day that the Journal wasn't needed! I sold my Journal every time!

And now that I'm thinking of it, for sometime I couldn't hire elites!

Saying that makes me disbelieve you...for all we know, it may still have a use that he's not telling us...cause if alhoon says that Chel said it was useless, it may still have a hidden feature somewhere.

Why would he do that? To make joke of all the people who loves his mod? I'm sorry but your guess sounds retarded to me.

The Journal will definitely be part of the story later, but at this point it serves no purpose.

Even if it did its value would change with a new version which I hope will come out relatively soon.

When the quest of immortality is out, I'll keep my journal just in case. Sure, Chel may not want to play a prank on us, but he could forget to tell us "don't sell the Journal!" or far more likely I may miss the "Don't sell the Journal" post.
I didn't say that Chel would play a joke on us. But since it will be used later, I'm keeping it because I cannot be sure when this "later" will be.

Later = Later versions = Not savegame compatible.

And as an idea, let a script run every say.. 30 days to add a didderent journal that adds like +1 spotting or pathfinding. You keep track of landmarks and passageways (pathfinding) in your journal, as well as some places there might be ambushes or where you would travel with an army (spotting). Just a suggestion really. :3

Maybe an item called "Outriders" that increases your spotting? Or an 'Hero' called "Outriders" which grants you some spotting? I dislike how your guy can see trough mountain and forrest because he has a high spotting level. >_>

:3 JOURNAL FTW

It would be great to have a complete history of major game log events. Now when I restart a saved game a couple days after playing (sorry - i don't get to play EGIII every day) I forget stuff like, "What the hell am I doing face down in the dirt again?"

I hope it doesn't.

A migrating bear tribe killed me and jacked it from me. D:
