In EGII the journal was needed to hire special units, this was not obvious and only became apparent once you lost the journal. It took people some time to figure that out then I coded it to work a different way but kept the journal for fun.

Saying that makes me disbelieve you...for all we know, it may still have a use that he's not telling us...cause if alhoon says that Chel said it was useless, it may still have a hidden feature somewhere.
