Does every PC game nowadays install into Steam?!?

So I just got COD: Blackops(retail version) and when I install it it starts to install using steam, I noticed Fallout: New Vegas did this too.....

So is this supposed to happen?

Oh Ok, the last three PC games I bought installed using steam...was just curious why.

Probably to make it harder to pass on to your mates when you stop playing it.

Sorry, I mean "For convenience, that way if you lose or damage the disk you still have the game".

No, just some of the major ones. Steam is very appealing to developers/publishers now.

Largely the ones with Steamworks, yes.

I don't buy any games that require Steam. If possible, I choose the version that doesn't require Steam and if such version is not possible, I'll pass.
