Do troops level up when left in Garrison?

As the topic says. I am kind of unsure if it works, or if it works as intended, because I didn't see any of my troops level up. If they do, how long does it take?

I don't believe they do. This was also the case in Warband IIRC? Some mods did add an ability to train your troops up and tier them up in Warband though, so hopefully something like that is included in the base game this time around.

I'd like if we could train the troops in garrisons, but then we also need a way to STOP training them, so the wages for the garrison do not keep going up up and up without us having a way to tell them "STOP TURNING ALL THOSE RECRUITS INTO SERGEANTS COSTING ME A FORTUNE!".

On the matter of recruiting and garrisons, it would be nice to also get the ability to talk to a dude in your keep and tell him "go around and pick up some people to add to the garrison" and he then runs from village to village to do just that. In warband there was a mod for that iirc.

There is something that talks about leveling up garrisoned soldiers I think. I don't remember if it was an improvement or a perk or something.

By the way, you can have your companions go around and recruit soldiers. Just create a party, they will go and recruit soldiers. When you disband the party, they drop the soldiers off at nearest garrison I believe.

wha i know the garrison leveled up my all my soldiers tha had a new level i hadnt chosen fer em yet. plus there is a improvement in castles tha gives the garrison 1+-3+ experience each day i guess it is? dont remember if it specifies if its per day

There are perks that say otherwise, but I've never seen any troops level up in my garrison and I've left them there for months on end. I don't think a lot of these perks work currently.

There's a barracks building you can add to towns that states it gives EXP to garrisoned troops per day (cause everything is per day now.)

Now I haven't conciously watched this work, but I also haven't seen the leadership per day EXP boosts work either, so I'm in the same boat as lucas thinking it's just not quite implimented yet.

Oh crap I forgot about the barracks, yeah I've also got that maxed out, well every building maxed out, and I've not seen any of the soldiers level up. I've even tried switching them to my party to see if they've gained xp and I can't see any difference. I must admit I'm not taking full notice or writing it down but I think I would've seen a difference. I've left plenty of lower level soldiers in the castle for a year or two and they're still the same level.

Definitly not working right now.
Tested it with a maxxed out settlement (barracks III) and 10 recruits in the garrision. Even after months they still did not gain any xp what so ever.

I have seen troops gain experience in garrison. I think only when the settlement has a governor. It is a tiny very slow gain. But I have definitely come back to somewhere I haven't been in a long time and had troops that I could upgrade. The AI didn't upgrade them itself but they had gained xp and allowed me to upgrade them. Without a governor injured troops don't even heal themselves let alone gain xp.

Yes, i also need to take them out to my party, click on them, first then can i upgrade them as well before putting them back into garrison.
I had no governor in my city by that time.
