Do City Relations Do Anything?

I've been increasing my relations with various cities (aka towns), and I got to wondering... why?

You can't recruit from them.
When you are at war with a faction, you can't enter its cities even if you have positive relations.

Is there something I'm missing or forgetting?

hard to say what could be hiding around the corner.

Possibly recruiting townsmen is in the future?
Increased tax revenues?
Better moral/defense in the event of a siege?

Maybe less chance of getting "ambushed" @ night?
~ Because IIRC, I could have sworn the last time it happened to me one of the "bandits" looked a lot like
the guild master of that city!

better relations with a town lowers prices of goods bought and raises money gained when selling. I think it also lowers cost of mercenary recruitment.

I *think* it increases the amount of revenue gained when you rule the city.

Of course, revenue varies along with the prosperity of the city as well, so I may well be imagining things...
