Do bots have a shield block force shield?

No one else has ever mentioned this, but I notice it time and time and time again so I am a bit confused exactly what is going on.

If you attack a blocking enemy AI from an angle not covered by their shield your hit will often register as hitting their shield much like in Warband. I have not been able to hit an AI around their shield before, and if I did its probably because they released block.

This does not seem to happen for the player, the AI can quite easily hit me around my shield.

I'm not sure the specifics but I notice this too. There is a perk that extends some shield radius (with magic field) but I still see this in situations where the units can't have the perk.
