DnD Campaign: The Goblin Menace

Well, before we go. Does the commander have any more intel on the goblin scouts?
To be perfectly clear, the term goblin scouts could include anything! What if they have a hob goblin, pet ogre, or a mechanical flying rape machine and the commander neglected to tell us?!

Other than that, no .

You have no way of knowing that.  If you want to know more, you would have to either go looking for some piece of paper with information on it about the goblin camps, or, you could go looking for the commander and ask him personally.

Somebody else ask the commander, I already stepped outside and don't want to track any more mud into the tent.

The commander has already left the tent.

"Let's just go. If there are flying rape machines, I'm sure horses could outrun it."

"Aye, we should waste no time in this task, while darkness is still our ally.
We have many things to consider if we wish to be sucessful. For instance, is the camp within hearing range of the main force? How will the alarm be raised, is there an alarm bell, or do the greenies merely rely on shouting? Do the have any mounted messengers?
Those will be our main priorities I feel. Breo, Kuxi, will you be able to use silencing magic to aid us? That should counter the alarms, while Lans and I snipe any runners, with Slul and Sene joining us for the clean up. If we can force the enemy in to close proximity to each other, all the better for the divine powers and our archers to lay them low. With a little luck, we'll clear them out before the rest ever notice a thing."

*Edrein takes one last look at the map, before mounting his horse. He strings his bow, tests the string and nocks and arrow, moving away from the firelight to better scan the horizon*

Edit: 8 replies, I need to type faster. Or possibly less.

"Fine, I'll go ask the commander, the rest of you get going, I'll catch up."

I go find mister commander, and ask him if he has any more intelligence on the goblins or if there's a timeframe for the mission.

"I'll do that the instant the first opportunity offers itself."

Does range affect magic success and failure by the way?

Edit: I know I said I was going out, but NOW I'm going. Other than this delay, there should be no more hiccups for the rest of the month.

Is there an Auto mode we can go on when we're away?

I leave with the rest of the party, bringing a javelin out into my hand as I scan the horizon.

Edit: Fickly enter button.

"Edrein, I think it might be a good idea for either one of us to sneak about the camp first to see what kind of opposition we are up against, the commander was vague about the strength of the encampment."

I go find mister commander, and ask him if he has any more intelligence on the goblins or if there's a timeframe for the mission.
You search the camp, and fifteen minutes or so later, you find the commander in the main war tent, in a heated discussion with his advisors about the battle plan for the morning's attack on the trapped goblin army.  You barge into the meeting, interrupting it.  You ask the commander if he has any more intelligence on the goblin lookout camps.  He stands up and shouts at you "If I had any more damned intelligence I would have told you it! Everything we know about them is written down on the map.  Now go, or you'll be hard pressed to reach the camp before morning, let alone destroy it."  He then returned to the map, cursing angrily about the useless mercenaries the king has hired.

Yes, the longer the range, the harder the spell.  I will that the actions for characters who aren't present.

I apologize, and mount up, following the rest of the group, muttering something in halfling on the way.

"I'm agreed there Lans, we need to know the layout of the camp, the strength and armaments of the enemy, and if the have any of their damnable shamans there. Just remember, these runts can see pretty well in the dark, so it's not going to be a stroll."

*Ed checks his pouch for his ring of dark seeing and checks the lenses of his spyglass as they travel*

That's why I found having a horse useless. Two days? And what, after that it is stew? Not smart, especially being so close to the canyon and all.
Then again, I haven't even been recruited into the party.

Gabriel the Homeless cries, and scours his tent for fleas.

Horses can feed off of grass you know, the feed is great and all, but it's not necessary. It's more of an indulgence.

The main part of the party reaches a hilltop, and the party is in view of the opening to the box canyon in which the trapped goblin army has set up camp.  From your vantage point you can see several fires in the distance.  Two south of the box canyon, and three to the north, two atop hilltops close the the mouth of the canyon, one about a quarter mile in front of the other, and one farther North than either.  About fifteen minutes later, Silver catches up to the party, and they start to discuss their next move.

So it is a European setting? I'm in Arizona, and a horse would die here very quickly.
(I understand that this doesn't take place where I live.)
From the first post, all I gather is that there is a canyon, and a tent. No rain, nor forest, nothin'.!
