The Forge HCRP server has been using even less rules for the last two days and it's worked out pretty wells so far. I'm not sure how the quality of roleplaying compares on the US servers though.

They are about the same on average... US usually has more "average" RPers, while the EU usually has either great RPers or complete randomers lol

So they are about the same, just different scopes

I'm a fan of as few rules as possible, so this new ruleset is good in my book.

One thing I was wondering about is the stance on metagaming. I always hate trying to rob people in faction lands, and them calling for help through their faction chat, or robbing valuables like gold or a cart from someone, and then have them tell the server through global chat where to find me. Or then RP Wise, the use of messenger birds in global. Trying to roleplay as a courier would be a lot more practical without them. Sure, these are pretty specific points that can be discussed later, but in general, what ways would metagaming be allowed, or disallowed?

I guess this is a good place to put what I was suggesting.. I read a bit of this topic and thought it would fit in.

Maybe its the map thats breaking the rp of the server, the fact you can change class at any time suggests that.

I suggest not allowing people to change class in game.
US east has a map atm that spawns ppl inside a single room.
I say add all the training in there and after the first class change you never spawn there again until you rejoin the server.

Also I agree with the above post, I think faction chat should be removed.

Excellent ruleset, you two. One question though- why is the "Anonymous" dude anonymous? What does he have to fear?

I did not ask for permission to use his name on these forums. It was just a common courtesy.

Edit: Names are no longer anonymous as I have been given permission to use them.

The only instance where a server could operate with little/no regulations whatsoever would be an application-only one.

I'm not saying faction chat should entirely be removed. It has it's uses. I'm just saying that it's used as IC chat when in reality it's OOC chat, like global. I'm just curious as to what the server's stance on metagaming is.

Yea I see what he is saying, I have seen it many times, you go to rob someone, they stay still and silent, then say "Hold on", 15 secs later, 5 knights from his faction come rolling in...

Sadly though, putting more rules on all that will be going backwards from what this ruleset is trying to achieve

With the proposed ruleset, I feel it's going to lead to a altered Team Death match server. With these rules, I (metaphorically speaking) could bring on some buddies to the PW server and run around saying "Halt. I'm killing you for your colored boots." With these rules, you could tread it as a altered TDM match. These rules are considered HCRP? I don't think so. They're going to lead to very prime fighters rolfstomping everyone. You could say people could group up and fight whomever are stronged then them. Right, now we have a classic TDM battle going on. Awesome.  I don't think the East community could handle such a drastic change in rules. This is what I Propose the new ruleset be changed to.

General
1. Do not kill anyone without a valid (RP) role playing reason. This is considered RDM (Random Death Match) and is NOT allowed on this server.

2. Provide depth to your RP. "2k gold or die" is a perfect example of what we like to call fail RP, which is not allowed. If you provide an in depth environment for others to RP in, they will in turn do the same for you.

3. No metagaming. Metagaming takes away from game play and is not allowed at anytime. Wikipedia definition:
Wikipedia wrote:
Metagaming is a broad term usually used to define any strategy, action or method used in a game which transcends a prescribed ruleset, uses external factors to affect the game, or goes beyond the supposed limits or environment set by the game. Another definition refers to the game universe outside of the game itself.

4. You are required to follow the New Life Rule (NLR). This means all in character (IC) information your character may possess is forgotten upon death. Acquaintances must be reestablished. Enemies must be remade. Ect.

5. Information released in global ("T" chat) is considered OOC and cannot be used to RP with.

6. No glitching.

7. Respect all admin and their decisions. If you have an issue with an admin member use the Admin Complaint thread to lodge your complaint. Remember, be articulate with your complaints and provide evidence for support.

8. If you have been banned, use the Ban Appeal thread. Do not pester the admin out of character or in character, this includes via proxy, about your ban.

9. When you have a problem that requires an admin, be informative when asking for help.
"ADMIN HALP OMGWTFHAXBBQSAUCE!!!!11" is not informative and will most likely get you ignored. "Being randomed" is informative. If you do not receive assistance after asking do not immediately ask again. Our staff is busy and will get to you as soon as they get a chance.

10. Spamming will get you kicked from the server without a warning. This includes excessive usage of CAPS LOCK.

11. An admin with any admin armor on is considered OOC and is not to be bothered IC. On the random occasion an admin is killed, looting of that admin's corpse is not allowed. (Armor, Weapons, Money, etc) No exceptions.

Raiding
Wikipedia wrote:
Raid, also known as depredation, is a military tactic or operational warfare mission which has a specific purpose and is not normally intended to capture and hold terrain, but instead finish with the raiding force quickly retreating to a previous defended position prior to the enemy forces being able to respond in a co-ordinated manner or formulate a counter-attack. Within the tactical mission, a raiding group may consist of personnel specially trained in this tactic (such as commandos or guerrilla fighters), regular soldiers, or any organized group of combatants.

The purposes of a raid may include:

to demoralize, confuse, or exhaust an enemy
to ransack or pillage a location
to obtain property or capture people
to destroy goods or other things with an economic value
to free POWs
to kill or capture specific people
to gather intelligence.
1. Any town or castle may be raided. With that being said, there are further constraints on raiding so make sure you know what you're doing.

2. Raids are required to be announced in global chat ("T" chat) three (3) times and must include where and when the raid will take place.

3. There is a minimum wait period of three (3) minutes before a raid can commence.

War
1. Wars are not allowed to be declared without a valid IC reason. No exceptions.

2. Wars are required to be announced in global chat ("T" chat) three (3) times and must include who you are going to war with and a valid reason why.

3. There is a minimum wait period of three (3) minutes before a war can commence. Applies to all factions warring. This includes but is not limited to killing on sight (KoS) of opposition's forces, attacking infrastructure (walls, bridges, doors, chests, etc)

4. To participate in a war, you are required to be wearing armor purchased from an armory. If you are not wearing purchased armor you may not participate in the war. No excuses.

5. If you do not wish to participate in a war, leave faction my pressing the "F" key on a commoner pole conveniently located inside your castle.

6. War is over when a participating faction has lost all of their land, and their Lord has died at least once. When a faction with no land wages war and their lord dies before the capture any land, the war is over.

7. A faction may only declare war on a faction once (1) every hour. In example, if Faction A, who holds no land, declares war on Faction B for land and Faction A loses. Faction A may not declare war on Faction B for one (1) hour. This rule does not apply if a 'protected' faction changes their faction name within that hour period.

8. A faction with land may not declare war on another faction which has no members. No exceptions.

9. Peace must be declared once the winning criteria has been met.

10. If you do not wish to participate in a war you are required to leave your faction. You may do so by pressing "F" on the commoner pole located conveniently inside every castle.

Assassination
1. Valid RP reason required. No exceptions

2. The assassin is required to state "Contract Accepted" in global ("T" chat).

3. The assassin is required to make contact with an admin ("Backspace" chat) with the following information:
Who hired the assassin
Who the target(s) are
Reason(s) for assassination

4. The victim of an assassination has a right to know why they were killed OOC. The release of any other information is entirely up to the assassin and originating party.

Robbery & Taxing
1. You may rob and tax anyone.

2. You may not rob the same character more than once (1) every fifteen (15) minutes.

3. You may not rob an unarmored character for more than a thousand (1000) gold OR one (1) item on their person

4. You may not rob an armored character for more than two thousand (2000) gold OR one (1) item on their person

5. A single item includes a horse, cart, hand basket, etc.

6. If a cart is attached to a horse the horse and cart are considered one (1) item.

7. If a cart contains goods those goods along with the cart are considered one (1) item.

Reminder: Keep the RP nice and deep, there need to be dialogue.

Mercenaries
1. Mercenaries are required to be in the faction they are supporting. The only exception to this is if the mercenaries have their own faction and are at war with the same faction.

Rules, at the end of the day are guidelines. I'm having a hard time understanding how people are finding them too restrictive. It's a game after all. A game about roleplaying, not turning a RPing server into an RP-TDM server.

Arghhhh!!!

I hate this, I am so on the fence right now, Justice has very good arguements and a full rule set...

All the "HCRP" with little rule sets have very good arguements as well...

I am getting to the point I feel if i make a decision either way it is going to piss off/dissapoint people on one side :'(

That's what decisions tend to do. Welcome to being a server owner.

Don't thank me, thank Atriarc.

Also, we have a test server right? Maybe use that to our advantage.

Very true very true...

*sigh*

I could run a smaller server for it...

How would yall feel about that? I will basically split the slots, have 2 60 slot servers instead of a single 120...

One server with the expanded rules, the other will be a HCRP marked server with the limited rules...

Thoughts?

EDIT- Just been thinking, that would then split up the community even farther... Hmmm not sure if the benefits would out-weigh that...

It's okay JaX, we're here for you.

What servers have been doing for a year and a half is clearly not working. Even I supported these enhanced rules when they initially came into favor; however that quickly changed when NAPW showed how easy it is to screw it up beyond repair. You'll never be able to successfully enforce roleplay, no matter how many rules you add and how tight your guidelines are. It simply doesn't work, people who are forced into something won't do a very good job of it. And, with the state of the playerbase recently, you can't seriously say that roleplay has grown or flourishes or even exists.

It's why our battle events are able to draw so many participants, people actually do want to have battles, and they enjoy them. The most recent event put on by myself, Friedrich, and some others really proved that people are interested and can enjoy losing because they are having fun (god forsaken pirates be damned, I say).
