I know a lot of people complain about 'ninja horses' and not being able to hear them, but does anyone else have the exact opposite of that?  Hearing horses ALL the time?  It's very disconcerting (and disorientating).

I hear horses everywhere.  If they're 50 feet away, they sound like they are RIGHT on top of me.  It's pretty damn loud and the horse will be forever away.  If I'm on the stone bridge in Field by the River, I hear horses as far away as the middle of the field, where the logs and rock sit.  Does anyone else have this problem?

I'd rather not hear horses until they're right up on me rather than hearing horses as if they're right up on me all the god damn time.

BTW I just started noticing this with my Windows 7 upgrade, unfortunately at the same time I upgraded to the last patch (not the one released earlier today, the one before that. 633 I think it was...or whatever we're on - 1), so I can't tell you if it's 7 (handling of audio devices maybe?) or the patch that did it.  It wasn't always like this.

I have this too. Allways thought this is because i'm playing with earphones, and it was always like that (using xp).

Part of the ninja horse problem is that you can't tell distance by the sound of the horse.  Sometimes they sound close when they aren't and other times you could have sworn you didn't hear anything before they lanced you in the back.  Someone mentioned a problem with dead spots on the map.  Basically what ends up happening is you always have to visually check for lancers every three seconds or so.  And even then they sometimes sneak up on you over a hill or something.

I play with speakers, so it's not just limited to earphones.  Guess it's not to Win7 either.

I can't hear them through my speakers unless they are very close, but when I put my headset on my head I hear them even when they are on the other side of the map. Something is wrong here...

The directional audio has always been messed up with Mount & Blade.  It wasn't really a problem in SP as it just added to that chaotic battle feel (not to mention most people weren't playing on nightmare difficulty - and so could survive a lance to the back).
