Sir. Velmu

Grandmaster Knight
I know the current game is still going (actually, it's has just started to get intresting). I just though it wouldn't hurt make some planning and test the ice with a stick.
From the beginning of the first game, I've hoped that we could get a community around this game, so this wouldn't have to be the last game played around here. Well, there aren't so many having the will or time to focus on Diplomacy and we have had problems with deadlines and stuff. Many of those problems were my faults, but I often had my reasons.

The reason why I'm bringing this up so early, is because I'm a bit bored and secondly, because we need new players and they need sometime to learn the rules and get into the game. Game with same players over and over again is very soon a dead game. I might have some ideas about training new players a bit, but I still need to work on those.

Also, I think we could make some changes in the rules. Changes that would make the game easier for a new player to approach.

1. Next game could be no-press game, meaning that there would be no discussion between the players (about the game at least). Turns would be played faster, as you wouldn't need to wait the on the other side of the world to wake up. Personally I've never liked no-press games, but in this situation, I think it could be a good decision.

2. Variant map. By picking a map that hopefully the possible veteran players haven't played before, would also make the game easier for newbies, as there wouldn't be any classic tricks to pull out of hat. This hasn't been really a problem in this game, but I would like some other map
If we choose to play a variant, it shouldn't make any great changes in the gameplay, besides the map. So no Machiavelli.
Personally, my favourite would be Imperial Diplomacy (map), but unluckily it asks for 13 players. Maybe out of our reach

I had some other points to, but I'll get to them later on, if I remember those() and I have someone listening.

Links to to some variants:
Ancient Mediterrian - 4 players
Modern Diplomacy - 10 players
Imperial
And a few hundret more

Edit: Just remembered one point. If there's someone willing to host the game, s/he is free to do so. S/he will also have me as player, if needed.

Since the current Diplomacy game is turning towards end, this thread can be used to sign players for a new game.

HERE ARE THE RULES FOR ANYONE IN NEED OF THOSE: http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/diplomacy_rules.htm
This can also be helpful (in many ways): http://www.diplomacy-archive.com/god.htm

Everyone's welcome even if you didn't know the rules. There are many to advice you and there's out pilot game, where you can see how things work out (sort of).
Sing here and I'll put you in the list below:

1. Sir Velmu
2. Leprechaun
3. medvedov
4. Merentha
5. Morgoth
6. Bugman
7. Gculk
8. Drachenfaust
9. Bulle
10. Silver

A no-press game would be no fun. It removes all the diplomacy from Diplomacy.

A variant map could be good too.

I'd like to propose a change in the rules that means that when you take an area, it's yours next turn, as opposed to having to hold it through the next turn and into the build turn for it to change hands.

Not completely true, however it makes the diplomatic part less important as you can't make any accurate plans. Normally I wouldn't suggest it, but now I feel we should try to go for a training game, where turns could be handled fast and new comers could learn some basics of playing the game.

It wouldn't be the same without the intrigue and the plotting. And I'm a green player and I'm thoroughly enjoying myself.

Yeah, i haven't put there many variants, keep suggesting or vote for standart.

I hate polls with only 1 vote option.  There is an old 1885 variant that uses the standard map (more or less) with a few more centers. It plays 9 if there are any interested players, and on line is a variant, somewhere, of Conan's Hyborean Age that will play quite a few (7-9 but about 7 or 8 is best)  If you can't find it I have copies of the rather elegant map around here somewhere.

I agree with Lep. if it takes a week per turn (not builds, or retreats) so what, it's the give and take that makes the game go!

Different winter and withdraw turn are the worst the host can make to the game, sorry for that

About the poll, you can change your vote as many times you want, I think. I just couldn't be bothered to list tens of variants up there, as with fewer options, the imperial one would be more likely to get more votes

But I'll keep adding tem, as soon as they are suggested.

The map and dteailed rules for the game will be decided, once we got the number of volunteers!

Can you guys think anyone here on forums, who hasn't played yet, but might getintrested to do so?

Since there has been a while since people signed up, I'd hope you all do it again in here and that we could decide a more detailed game plan. For example, the GM, the map plus some other things I'll remember in a short while.

Still there?

Venerable Moderator, and Esteemed Opponents, I would not miss the opportunity to cross swords on the field of battle once again.  The venue does not matter to me.

I suspect that a rematch in Europe 1900 would recommend it's self, in as much as everyone will be familiar with the rules, and terrain.  However, I forwarded some maps that might work well.  There is a European map from 1885(III) that allows 8 players (I think) that uses roughly the same map.

By all means count me in!!!
