Good evening.
I started up Bannerlord a couple weeks ago and got proper hooked into the game again. However upon delving deeper into my own Kingdom, I have discovered a stupid easy way to encroach on land/territory without a drawn out war.
I have my own kingdom and I wanted to take my first plot of land in Bannerlord, Coincidentally I noticed the Khurgs (who I'm at war with) going in to attack a southern empire castle - there is a massive fight between Southern Empire/Khurgs, I wait for that figfht to end (let them weaken eachother), then when the Khurgs have won the fight and castle is now Khurgs, I siege it and take it for myself, with ease.
Straight after (during waiting to recover wounded), a huge Khurg army comes to my newly taken castle, to siege it back. I sally forth and speak to them.
"There is something I would like to discuss"
"Our kingdoms should make peace"
He accepts with no questions asked!! The cherry on the cake, is this 500+ Man army, would EASILY annihilate my 200 men that are left standing. But he gladly takes peace, AND even gives me his 5k denars and 2 sheep and a saddle......
So after learning this, I rebuild my army, then as soon as I'm able, I goto another Khurg city, attack the nearby village to initiate war, then besiege and win the castle. After taking the castle, it's all exactly like the first instance. They send in a huge army, I sally out and say I want peace, they accept, give me their 5k denars and a cow this time! and then we all go our merry own ways.
The second castle I took was beholden by the Khurgs as long as I know in the game, and they just gave it up as easily as that.
Now at first I thought it was because I chose Khurgs to do all my evil biddings on, and they just hated how successful I was at killing their lords, so I went and sieged a southern empire town using the same tactic, attack village, then siege town, win the fight and hooray I now have a town!! Bearing in mind that all my good relations were with the southern empire. I simply waltzed up to the next southern empire lord I saw, and said we should make peace, he proceeded to give me his 5k denars and livestock (is this standard now??) and away we went. I had just acquired ANOTHER plot of land, without a drawn out war.
I shall continue this path and see if anything different happens, just for the sake of testing. But it's a bit daft that such a meagre kingdom as mine, can take freely whole towns and castles from the larger kingdoms, without any repercussions at all.
SOLUTIONS
There are a couple of things which could work here.
- There could be an artificial cooldown on declaring peace (I.e. you can't ask for peace after X amount of days of declaring war)
- Settlements loyalty to a particular Kingdom (the longer they have owned it), HIGHLY affects the bartering system when attempting peace, and HIGHLY affects their desire to want that settlement back. (After all, this is a settlement filled with their own people)
- (EDIT) When peace is requested from the player, the system checks back over a period of X days and sees whether the player has taken any land from them, compare that with the loyalty system in order to make a truer bartering system.
