People have very different senses of humour. Some people no doubt find the whole thing hilarious(personally I don't, I am more amused by the reactions). I don't really feel the need to sit and filter out what is and is not something people are allowed to joke about. If the joke is in poor taste or not really has no bearing.

The lawsuit should really fail, simply because Beck and his lawyers are suing for the wrong reason. The agency they have brought it forward to, does not actually deal with libel, merely it deals with proctecting copyrighted names/trademarks(the WIPO).

Seriously? No one knows who Beck is? The guy makes his living doing this exact kind of thing to actual, good people, all the time. By all the time, I mean he has a nation television show, and a radio show. He's the guy spewing all the filth about Obama hating white people, etc. The joke is that the site is using his own tactics against him.

And he can't sue them in an American court as he is considered a public figure, and would have to disprove a nonexistent event, and intentional malice. Problem being that any judge would laugh him out of the room for the aforementioned reasons.

It's a guy who literally makes his living making ad hominem attacks, being hit with a clearly made up ad hominem and reacting like it was true.

Under the United States Constitution, Amendment I, satire is protected free speech so long as it is so outlandish as not to be believed.

In the case, Hustler Magazine showed Falwell having an incestuous encounter with his mother while drunk.

This is similar; the site is so outlandish that it is not to be believed. Therefore, it's protected free speech.

Well, the case was brought forward to the WIPO, which is based in Geneva. However, this was due to the fact that under American law such a lawsuit would fail as per your above mentioned precedent.

Ironically, the World Intellectual Property Organization deals with copyright infringement. Applicable to this case would be to stop people from taking domain names that violate the rights of a trademark holder.

Thus, the case is rather frivolous, Beck(or his lawyers) claiming that anyone would confuse the above website with something actually trademarked by Beck or such is rather idiotic. Had the website been called www.glenbeck.com, then sure there might be some logic in bringing it before the WIPO.
