To start off: Thank you for this wonderful game, i love it so far 30-ish hours into it. Knowing that I've destroyed
warband with a 1000+ hours, I dig this kind of game. I've waited 8 years for Bannerlord and not to mention i'm not dissapointed,
but to be honest I'm also not super pleased. It's an "in between".
Do not think that I'm criticizing the game, on the contrary, I love every aspect of it and i'm 100% supportive.
I'm trying to find the bugs and improvements the game needs, together with this community. I could make a thread with what is amazing about the game but that won't help in improving it, because those don't need rework.
I'd like to get in some details in which could possibly improve Bannerlord's singleplayer;
The following are improvements that I would suggest personally
and some bugs that if possible should be fixed. (Bugs & Specs at the end)
1. FIRST PERSON BLOCKING
Sometimes battles become messy. Fighting in first person would be more advantage,
however when in first person you raise your shield to block attacks, it actually blocks the whole view.
No -> i'm not holding the shield upright, I'm blocking downwards. Being able to see at least above the shield would be better.
2. VILLAGE QUESTS
I find that we need more variation in village quests, I've been doing family feud a lot,
As if it's the only quest out there, together with defeating the bandit hideouts.
2a CITY QUESTS
Every quest is the same everywhere, as in Warband;
how about every faction has it's own kind of quests based on their background and environment.
3. CHASING BANDITS
Chasing sea raiders or forest bandits is really hard. I have to try and cut them off every time
in order to fight them. I've already put the map speed at an easy rate so that I have a bonus speed.
It's still a pain in the *** to catch up to them. Maybe they should have some slower speed on the map?
3a. ENCOUNTERS
As for this one I find that the activity in the world map is still the same as in Warband.
Running around finding hideouts, killing bandits, besieging, battling lords etc etc...
- Maybe it'd be fun if a few groups of bandits, even if they're not strong enough, try to team up against you
which could lead to an 'ambush'(4). Because all they do is run away from us.
- An encounter that starts a random quest, like farmers needing your help or being chased by bandits.
- A group of "i don't know what" tricking you into "something" so that you have to fight your way out with your 5 best man.
- Intruders, storming the lands of Calradia for a few days roaming around the map looking to kill anybody and disturb the peace.
- Cattle running away -> do you slaughter them or bring them back where they belong?
- Ruined ruins, caravans, stranded ships (being looted by bandits that you have to kill first) which contain loot that you can gather (if you're the first one to find it, lords could participate)
- Maybe a stupid idea and not in the style of mount & blade but how about a pack of wolves trying to attack you. I'm just throwing ideas.
Having a bit more life on the world map?
4. AMBUSHES/TACTICS
Battles are nice and all; but i have the feeling it's the same as in warband.
Lords will just advance in paces or hold position until you attack, bandits and such will just rush without thinking.
What if bandits would actually try and ambush or surround you to make it more interesting.
So that we could use circle formation for example, because as for now I don't see the use of that formation yet.
What if NPC lords would have a bit more tactics to their battles. For example: making them rush with cavalry
and try to damage your archers first or just charge into your army to try and weaken it before they send the infantry.
Or vice versa, this is just an idea; make battlefields more interesting and alive other than charging into one another with no passion for tactics.
5. TASKS AS A VASSAL
I've been a vassal for a faction for a while now; I still don't really feel to be an asset to their faction and being able to gain more exp/renown/honor.
It's like it is missing more missions or duties that should be requested by the ruler/commander to be fulfilled.
I'm just at war with a faction and that's it, sometimes we battle sometimes we siege.
And if everyone is at peace; there's maybe a tournament (like in Warband? I haven't been invited yet
)
6. FACTIONS OUTRULED
As I'm writing THIS 6th "issue" I'm at day 244 in the game, level 10. The Northern Empire has already almost destroyed 3 factions.
The Aserai, The Southern and The Khuzait are fighting for their last cities. They are already outplayed by The Northern.
I think they might be a little overpowered?
7. HORSERIDING BATTLEFIELD
I'm not able to kill enemies with my sword/axe while on a horse. This is really hard.
It's like my weapon is not reaching them or the aiming system is super different from warband.
Spear works the best. For sword and shield I have to dismount and fight on foot.
8. VOICES
I had hoped this would've been implemented when converting with NPC's or Bandits.
Even in Warband the bandits say 'I WILL DRINK FROM YOUR SKULL'. I'm missing these kinds of voice interacting.
Would make the game more personal and deeper. This should also be added to the people who hand out quests as well.
They would have to read their dialogue out loud. As for now I skip everything because i don't bother reading it at all.
9. INTERACTION
I have no idea what's going on in Calradia. I'm just strolling around looking for things to do.
How about some updates (like Warband did) when factions went at war with one another; or when an event took place, or like mentioned in 3a:
intruders roaming the lands of Calradia. Getting to know what's happening because it feels like I'm travelling clueless.
Yes we get updates bottom left, but do you really see it and most importantly, do you read it?
10. CRAFTING
I thought I saw a video from 2016 explaining that in order to unlock other parts of the weapon you had to go up north or south
to find those pieces there etc... I liked the idea about that but it's not like that now, or is it?
I haven't payed close attention to it, correct me if i'm wrong but -> smelting any item gives you a random chance
to unlock a random tier part of that weapon ? So I could be spamming all day at Lycaron forging and smelting, in the end,
I'll have everything unlocked? Not much of hard work. But I'm not sure on this one, I might be wrong.
11. HIDEOUTS
I've fought 10 hideouts until now of which I can remember 7-8 being the same; The one in the forest going downhill
along a river. Yes they were often hideouts in the forest next to a mountain, but that doesn't mean we have to play the battle
on the same scene every time?
12. COMPANIONS
When I meet them at the tavern, I'm not sure what I'm getting into. I can buy them for approx 1000 denars
but I don't know their skill or their worth. Are some skills also party skills as in Warband? Whereas I used one as a doctor and the other
as the siege engineer?
13. ANSWERS
Small detail but I find it painful to watch that after 8 years, my conversations with the bandits or lords are still the same.
"i'm here to deliver my demands"; "don't attack we surrender" etc...
and their answers are also still the same. Small detail maybe, but feels like sometimes I'm just playing Warband all over again.
And to be honest after a 1000 hours I know the dialogue's out of my head.
BUGS (of which you probably already know or are working on):
- Horse riding feels like surfing (both multi and single player)
- Horse riding in the snow makes grass appear under the horse, instead of snow
- Game crashes halfway through battlesiege on Lageta
- Can't forge axes even though I have the resources, I've read online that the same goes for maces and two handed weapons etc..
- Single player siege is okay until you meet the wall or the armies encounter each other, frame drops to 10 even in low quality (but multiplayer siege is fine)
- After being able to get past frame drops for 1 minute, we stormed the castle, but some troops were just bugging around the castle gate, running against the wall
- Also climbing ladders was an issue, 2 ladders were fine and 2 others were struggling to go up, they climbed with 5 seconds in between each unit
- I have a brother which i can't find in the city he's at Khuzain?
- Some caravan quests are bugged, I lost the caravan but the quest won't fail. In the end when I find it's second voyage city by accident it completes the quest.
- Friend of mine had family feud quest bugged; whereas he killed the enemy but couldn't finish the quest, was able to start it over twice, but then it bugged
- If the battle starts in first person i can see my helmet, have to press R twice to unbug that
I know it's pre alpha and we are the ones to discover those bugs and report them.
I don't mind this, the game is not polished yet, i'm not complaining like a lot of people are, the game is not even officially fully released.
I don't understand why people complain, instead of helping.
We have to work together as a community to make the game better.
Keep in mind those are my ideas of what could improve Bannerlord not how it should be.
Thanks again for this game, keep up the good work you're doing great!
