This is something we have some experience with from our previous title, Mount & Blade: Warband, so we are fully aware of the value of including our community at this stage of development. Our preparations have been proceeding quite nicely and we thought it would be a good idea to share what we have been up to in this period.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/116

Well its an opinion obviously you dont have to agree. It hasnt changed much since years ago either way. If you could humor me, what about it dont you like? Let me clarify i am not including AI behavior and such, which looked terrible at last years gamescom.

+1

C'mon Mr. Orion... could you please elaborate? :fruity:

Please Master Orion, educate the rabble.

I think, from the videos that we've seen and the features that are confirmed, that melee combat in particular looks to be less wonky than Warband's with its spammable feints and robotic attack animations. However, they have said that they are reducing the capacity to feint to some degree, and the new animations do not telegraph attacks as clearly as in Warband. Making your opponent more difficult to read should be something your opponent does, not something the game itself does. Cleaving is another major balance concern, and while I am not against it I do believe it needs to be difficult to achieve & thus situational. I am also concerned by damage & health values, as these are somewhat mundane things but very important when judging the efficacy of weapons, armor, and classes as a whole. Ranged combat is also an issue for me, especially as an erstwhile competitive player, because I'm in favor of retaining high accuracy on bows & crossbows while balancing them through other stats like rate of fire.

There's also the ever-present "khergit problem" which will be very much a repeat of Warband, IMO. Horse archers are inherently difficult to balance, and their state in Warband was considered too powerful for competitive play so they were always banned in tournaments. I'm certain that TaleWorlds won't just exclude an entire faction from their matchmaking system they have planned, so we will have to find an acceptable solution to this or just live with the fact that matchmaking will randomly be a joke at times.

If they go down the constant patching path of games like smash bros, they should be good. There have been a few major patches for that game that has somewhat balanced out the competitive characters, thus it would be the case in bannerlord. However, horse archers as you said aren’t extremely difficult to balance, not sure if they will ever be allowed in tournaments.

I think the solution for this is to limit the number of horse archers on a team. Horse archers can still be potent and the faction will retain its flavor/personality, while also keeping it balanced.

Maybe it is something your opponent does or has due to the increased set of animations:

IN TERMS OF COMBAT ANIMATIONS, WHAT SORT OF VARIATIONS CAN WE EXPECT? ARE THERE MORE UNIQUE ANIMATIONS DEPENDING ON WEAPON THAN WARBAND?
“In Bannerlord we have quite a few more variations than in Warband. Combatants can be in a left or right stance, which means there are two versions of each and every animation. On top of that, there are two variations of each animation, one for very light and fast, and one for heavy and slow weapons. Any particular weapon uses a blend of those two animations according to its weight. The dirty way of fighting also got additional variety in Bannerlord. Kick works the same as Warband, but it would also be possible to bash with either a shield or weapon in hand.”

How the hell have I never seen this before and why the hell is no one talking about this? If this is actually making it into the game, this is huge. Plus these animations look delicious.

While we're at it:
"The major change in bow reloading and shooting animations is that, we used to leave the arrow in the quiver until the player starts readying to shoot. Now the arrow is taken from the quiver as soon as the player is available to do so. This reduces the time required to ready and shoot an arrow, and gives a decent timing advantage to the bowmen. If the player gets disturbed while taking an arrow from the quiver, this action gets restarted on the next availability."

Absolutely succulent.

NPC99, you're like a living encyclopedia.

I love you devs so much. Thanks for the incredible work you have put into making this Saga. The best games ever made for PC, definately in the several thousands of hours, and Ive been playing everything ever made. Hearing this beta news has me utterly giddy. When this game comes out my VR headset is going to start collecting dust. Hopefully my i7-9700K and 2080 Ti can handle it (grinz)

almost a decade . you have litteraly been teasing this for almost a decade. its been so long i forgot/just stopped caring it was being developed . if this doesnt redefine the franchise it will destroy it . harsh, but accurate . you have no backup. the proverbial all your eggs in one basket scenario . i truly hope its incredible, but the reality is, if its taking this long theres somthing wrong.

For the creators of Bannerlord
Just take your time and relase it when you guys feel it that is ready.
I would rather play one complete game with cool features than unfinished game...
