Today we start a series of interviews with the different team members of TaleWorlds Entertainment. Every video game is the result of the combined efforts of professionals with very different skills, and that applies to Mount & Blade too. Ours is a varied team, with people from different backgrounds: programmers, artists, musicians and writers (among others) from different parts of the world and varying cultures. Understanding their tasks and their daily struggle is a great way to learn more about games development in general – and Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord in particular! Today we start with TaleWorlds’ founder and CEO: Armagan Yavuz. Every important decision passes through his hands; he is the one that makes sure that everyone and everything stays true to the original vision of the game. But it will be much better if he tells you about it by himself!</p></br> [/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/22

“Most of my day is taken up by meetings. In the time not occupied by meetings, I do my tours around the office, and most team members call me over to their desks to show their work and get feedback, or to ask a question. I also play the game for a couple of hours to see if there are any problems. I no longer code as much as I used to and most of my tasks about coding involve directing other programmers and doing code reviews, however every now and then there is something that picks my interest so much, I give it a shot.”

This is called "Making It" in life and I'm really jealous but it is also well deserved. This is like the no BS way of living, make decisions, design interesting systems, give the **** busy work to your employees, cherry pick the really sweet stuff.  Nice stuff.

One thing that pumps me up is that the whole ****ing game is scripted in c#. The whole ****ing thing except low level battle AI. This means first of all that a part of the battle AI is scripted, which means we can mod it. Which means we can mod the whole god damn thing. Is anybody else excited about that, because I'm excited by that.

Finally, I don't really understand how angry people are at how long they are taking. It is their money, their company, their lives. I thought people fought hard enough for the freedom to actually come home from work and have a life, why do people waiting for games want to reinstate slave like working conditions for any company? It is tough enough in the game industry.

Build a cool game, whatever, I'll play it as long as I'm not dead and enjoy the **** out of it.

Those 'angry' people you're talking about are generally not demanding more work hours but rather that the work is directed at a clear goal which doesn't seem to be the case. I mean, 7 years and pretty much all they've shown so far is combat footage which looks really nice, no question, but it looks like a more improved version of Warband. Which is cool, because combat in Warband was already good, but also doesn't say much about how far the game has actually progressed. People are concerned that Bannerlord is in development hell, that's all.

I don't know, I got a backlog of unfinished games.  Warband is still damned fun and yet I can imagine I might drop it when Bannerlord comes out.  Never get too impatient about such things.  I think I recall fallout 3 being a buggy mess.  Years later I bought a game of the year edition, gave my 2008 copy to a friend who never figured to patch it and said it crashed so many times on him.  I put fallout 3 on the shelf for years thinking maybe I needed a more powerful computer.

Fortunately that seems to be my only experience with a buggy release that I can recall.

Quite ironic that people see it this way given that they had only shown a few seconds- literally- of combat before Gamescom 2015 when we saw a brief portion of a looter battle, maybe 10 seconds at most. Then in March 2016 we saw our first battle. Until then people were complaining that we hadn't seen a proper battle and were voicing concern that there might be a problem with it. It seems we've come to the opposite position!

We saw the player riding over the world map, saw them mousing over villages to show the garrisons, saw village build menus and various sliders to manage village taxation, garrison and construction. We've seen the negotiating screen, party screen and post battle inventory management, the character creation, we had a blog on the engine and editor capabilties, a time lapse video showing changing seasons on the world map. We've seen the player walking around towns and crafting weapons, we've seen towns being besieged on the world map- really, we've seen quite a bit, and there certainly isn't a reason I can see to be worried that they haven't worked on anything apart from combat.

I know its too much to even hope for, but a full open world exploration in 3rd or 1st person mode, without the just map overview of some little toy-figures walking, would be a perfect game.

Imagine if you could choose to walk in theWitcher3-style from one castle to another, encountering bandits or evem armies on the way, getting in the middle of an ongoing battle and choosing wether to join or not.

I mean the map overview is fine, it served warband very well, but i wont stop hoping for a full open world mount and blade singleplayer.

I've seen in past people who wanted to make mods like that for Bannerlord, once it's out. Guess all you have to do is wait and see. ^^

This is a massive fighting game, not an adventuring game. There are plenty of Skyrims out there, so go play those instead.

Or, let's add resource management to the game, where you need to gather wood, stone and such to build more stuff. Also sieges are better done as tower defense games, while each town could have underground sewers where you club endless zombies.
Also called the Russian approach to game design - let's shoehorn multiple games into one and do them all badly.

Thats exactly how i imagine Bannerlord's Persistent World ?

And i do play them, i am not expecting that as a regular feature, im saying those are my wishes that would make the game perfect for ME. BTW you should work on your positive imagination, Armağan style. ?

Something alike can be achieved with proper draw distance implementation. In this way, Bannerlord wouldn't fall too far behind the way ArmA works. I can't wait to see what the modders are going to achieve with such bug maps.

You would lose most of the strategic aspects of the game, if you remove the worldmap. It would still be a fun fight simulation, but modders would have to create a lot of alternative entertainment (or make it MP) to reach the same depth that the worldmap offers.

Nah mayne you wouldn't like it. You think that thing A from game X would make a great addition to game Y because you liked it in game X but you fail to realize that other games don't necessarily benefit from features of other games. Or, rather than talking about features, it would be a fundamental choice during early development. Have fun running from one corner of the map to the opposite corner when you actually have to walk there. Games like Skyrim and The Witcher 3 work because the world is condensed and choke-full of things to distract you - like treasure hunting or quests - from realizing that you spend a lot of time just walking around. Also your time is generally not limited because the whole world waits for you until you are ready to do what you're going to do, unless you ain't there the world isn't moving and nothing is happening until the game is sure you are there to witness it.

That's in stark contrast to our Mountain Blade where the player is but one of many agents that influence the world. Warband and hopefully Bannerlord are sandbox games, not theme parks masquerading as an open world. And now give me all your money

You didnt read well, i said if we can choose one or the other view, not being forced into it. I am aware its complicated development-wise, but if its not considered even as a possibility in a major expansion or something, one mod will go a long way in that direction,be sure about that!
If you would, as you say, get bored in a Persistent World-like exploration of the whole Calradia, i have nothing more to say to you except : I will drink from your skull !

Again, wrong game, dude. Please read again what people are trying to tell you.
In this game, you are a warlord, an aspiring noble, a leader of fighting men. Not some piss-sodden Special One that goes off for days to chase butterflies in the bushes.
Wait for your PW mod and be a hobo there all you like.

I play this game for 9 years, thanks for explanation i was a newbie. I respect your opinion, but you must understand mine is different and if you dont respect other mans wishes, it has a name of its own.
All the best to you good sir.

Sorry dude sir, but try to see why good games work well and yours won't. There are several posters here with some game design experience that explained this well.

I dont have a game, im an all-round gamer that enjoys diversity and hope of choice in games. Vader tends to be autocratic and enforce his opinion on others. You trully are him ?

Openness and communication is so much more attractive than a release date. Smooth development doesn't even matter to me if these things exist.

I love to hear about various feelings on the project.
And props to the community team for putting up with us *****y players!
