Today we start a series of interviews with the different team members of TaleWorlds Entertainment. Every video game is the result of the combined efforts of professionals with very different skills, and that applies to Mount & Blade too. Ours is a varied team, with people from different backgrounds: programmers, artists, musicians and writers (among others) from different parts of the world and varying cultures. Understanding their tasks and their daily struggle is a great way to learn more about games development in general – and Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord in particular! Today we start with TaleWorlds’ founder and CEO: Armagan Yavuz. Every important decision passes through his hands; he is the one that makes sure that everyone and everything stays true to the original vision of the game. But it will be much better if he tells you about it by himself!

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/22

So, one of the decisions he said they had to make was between text based conversations and full voice. I have not seen any statements addressing that yet. Are you all going to do full voice acting in Bannerlord, or sticking with text?

It's nice to have heard some interesting things from the founder and I can't wait to see on the future interviews will be brought us. This is so much better then trying to find scraps of info every few months. It seems so far I'll be losing at least another 1000 hours to one of your games Taleworlds.

There was a minor thing in the Warband, that was "annoying sometimes". It was mostly in the Tournaments, that you can't loot other weapon, just the last one your opponent used. If he had a bow, but died with his knife you can only take the knife from him.
Will the bannerlords have a "better" loot system?

A couple of years ago they said that major NPCs will have voice work, whereas most interactions will be in text. I think that info surfaced after Gamescom 2015. At Gamescom we heard some placeholder voices for the characters of Cordalos and...his master, whose name I forget.

A question I have for the devs: Is Nijis still at Taleworlds (think his real life name is Steve)? He created my favourite mod for M&B .808, Battle for Sicily, before joining Taleworlds. He also created Empires of Faith (multiplayer), which was innovative and fun while it lasted. I notice that he hasn't visited the forum for just over a year though, which is why I wondered.

So if i understood, there will still be just dynamic text, and NOT voiceovers? Or both (fingers crossed ) ?

In some old videos there is a full voice cover of dialogs with npcs in a town or village

Yeah, i remember, my only fear is that it is limited to "generic" NPCs like tournament masters, shop and tavern owners only. The whole community awaits speaking lords, princesses, kings and such, hopefully

This looks like another lame blog to me. I'm speaking for myself obviously but I don't care what you do all day, to me it seems like you don't work at all when your "touring the office" You need to tell your workers to stop playing on the playstation and get back to work. Sure a break is alright when its less than 8 hours... But seriously, we want to hear about the game not your daily stroll through the office. I like others want to hear about the progress. Obviously, you guys are too incompetent to release the game this year and perhaps even next year but a progression chart or anything game related would go a long way. I guess first we have to get through all the lame interviews before we get to the good stuff?

They did tell us about the game. Armagan talked about some of the many struggles and difficult early-development decisions they needed to make and about what he currently working on right now in the game.

In fact, all of the questions were centered around Bannerlord. Plus, I, as well as several others, do enjoy learning about the devs behind the game. I especially liked learning of some of the inspirations for the game. If you're not at all interested in the interviews, then just don't read them. (I acknowledge that you do admit to this being simply your own opinion, but you also shouldn't make up some exaggerated stuff like saying Armagan does nothing but walk around and scold people.)

You misread Sir, what I was saying is he doesn't scold his workers enough. A little fire under this teams butt and you just might have a another game released this century. Maybe he needs to make a release date for his own employees (just not tell the fans, because as they stated last week, "There just isn't a release date, we don't work that way") And keep on them to make sure they get it or near.

I swear back in March at some point someone around here said this game was in "final touches" I guess I need to re-examine this phrase. When someone tells me that in the real world I think 3-7 days tops. Now the game world is a bit different, obviously, but still I wouldn't think that meant 2 years later...

Ah, Apologies. I did misread what you wrote. I'm personally fine with the taking their time on the game, but you certainly have a fair argument there.

Good stuff, but if truth be told I had hoped for about the twice the length.

Women keep telling me that too for some reason.

It surely isn't any groundbreaking stuff but I like how humble Armagan seems to be, like he's admitting that a lot of time developing the game went into making mistakes because they were inexperienced at that time instead of talking about how they don't need no deadlines or release dates because they're strong independent developers like the last blog.

So true.
I also liked how he didn't claim he was a strong, independent woman. Imagine the backlash.

How can you possibly know that he doesn't "scold his workers enough." You don't work there and have no way of knowing that there is even a problem with productivity.

Productivity doesn't mean much if you are lacking in direction. Armagan said that they did mistakes and had to scrap things and start over from scratch a couple of times, so the amount of work that went into these things was wasted to some extent but since it is possible to learn from your mistakes there can be some value in that, too. During the interview with GameStar at gamescom, however, Armagan still couldn't answer the question if a coop mode will make it into the game. Now, I'm not really interested in coop myself, but being 7 years in development, the lead dev should be able to give a clear answer to that question, which in turn begs the question - how far is the game, actually? I hope that this was just some PR-speak as to not lose potential buyers who are really into coop but I somehow doubt that.

Personally, what I've seen so far doesn't justify a development time of 7 years. Even with mistakes being made and all that, I do think the problem lies in the inability to call it quits and working on finishing the game rather than trying to improve it endlessly and the delusion that they think they can make the game perfect. Or at least what they would perceive as perfect, at some point you have to reveal your product to the public entirely and then work with the feedback you get. I haven't done much creative work myself but what little I did taught me that the longer you stare at something with the intention to spot flaws and areas that need improvement the more you forget what it actually looks like.

Schedules and clearly defined goals are generally needed if you want to move forward. And this is what the team over at Taleworlds is lacking, at least from what I understand.
