However, in Bannerlord, battles aren’t a simple numbers game. With the right units and tactics, encounters that seem hopeless can be turned to your advantage. But, a wise commander wouldn’t throw away the lives of their troops as part of a learning experience; they would do everything in their power to increase their chances of success by improving their tactical knowhow.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/94

Well done, another truly inspiring blog.

Ideas for next week:

A new, refined "Options" screen that will take the game to another level.

A great and inspired "Load Game" screen, for loading our saved progress faster than ever.

A quick blog which will inform us that the game has Swords and Shields (oh my God i am so anxious if this is true).

Maybe a blog about what type of wood blacksmiths use for crafting spears in Calradia.

A blog about how you are not still bankrupt from developing a game for the past 6 years and not being anywhere near it's release.

If I think of other great ideas like the ones I am seeing in this blog for the past 3-4 months, I will comment again!!

Don't despair mate... ¿its almost harvesting season?.

A blog about how they make a blog

I think they are far from bankruptcy M&B has been send at more than 10 millions copies and some people always buy it because of mods. I think modders should stop maybe it can make Bannerlord come faster  I think too they should have hire more people but they were probably afraid to make the company become too big in a short time.

Watch out dude, with groundbreaking ideas and PR like this, Taleworlds may just try to hire you!

Please don't give them anymore ideas for blogs.

I think I will (maybe, very maybe) use the custom battles if I am unsure on how a siege will work out and I don't want to waste all my men on a legit run (e.g. a legit run without exiting the game if I lose all my people and die.)

Historic realism wouldn't be fun anyway. You spend an hour gathering 100 men and then half them die of plague and the other half flees after just a few guys are killed in battle because morale is low. After your troops engage they would be almost completely out of your control. Those things are just frustrating, like in some mods where you need to rest your army after traveling 5 minutes or getting permanent injuries reducing stats.

True and false, but ordering units all around a battle field with point n click is stupid. actual Units were ordered by written orders. A 1990's game Napoleon by Dr Turcan actually did this beautifully - "D-erlon, order you infantry to form an attack line from Reille to the flank" The Game AI would then try to carry out this order. FAR more realistic, it drags you into the battle. Player has less control .... but welcome to the actual battles.

In actual medieval battles you would mostly just sit and watch. This isn't that kind of game. The point and click mechanic of total war for example isn't anywhere close to its most unrealistic aspect, and it quite faithfully represents the orders you might give soldiers in real life but in a less annoying way.

Dude don't open the box. People get triggered by the term 'realism', even when you use it to only tangentially support your arguments, but especially when you've used it the way you do. The moment you use the R word, people will accuse you of wanting -things you obviously don't want- and -things that aren't really realistic but form the popular thought of what was realistic*-. They've constructed this big sweeping narrative of what's realistic and assume if you want some, you want it all: It's like how a minority of Americans think health care and tax is hardline communism

WarBand is already 70 - 80 % realistic. Having soldiers to fight in formations with written units orders, like Napoleon by Dr Peter Turcan, would be perfection. "Control freaks" would hate it .... but once you learn the new system, you'll never go back.

.

Implement use of microphone so that you can tell orders to someone who can in-game write and read. Don't know what for if the receiver probably can't write or read either, but okay. You can probably shout orders to him instead, considering the, still relatively small, battle size.

Besides, can't we be on both sides of sergeants system now? I bet there will be plenty of occasions to hopelessly watch your men fumble around with your orders without a need for an awkward UI to give them.

Why would we want a completely unrealistic and unresponsive system in Bannerlord? Armies historically comparable with BL would not have issued written orders. The Napoleonic aide-de-camp system with messages passing orders to commanders is waaaay past the historical timeframe. Flags, horns, banners and shouting would be the primary communication form with the overall plan discussed and diffused through the 'officer' ranks before the battle.

Unless of course we assume that all the commanders of Calradia are all literate (Even the Battanians). How would that fit into your proposed system?

Delivering written messages works when you've got armies of thousands or they're in disparate places. In the original game/warband you sometimes delivered letters. In Bannerlord you're fighting typically with less than hundreds of men and you're not spreading out the battle. Communicating through writing would be ridiculous. Just yell at people, wave flags and blow horns.

Flags, horns, banners, shouting... And DRUMS. Don't know how everyone kept missing that one, present from ancient pre-history up through the end of the 19th century as a way to communicate across distances and over loud noises.

It is Friday here already and no blog
Where is my 'fix'.
To all those people constantly whinging about the quality and content of the blog ........ I hope you're happy!
