It's nice to see children in-game finally, happy birthday Ruwa and congratulations to the Taleworlds development team.

I also couldn't help but notice that 1084 was the year of the camel.

Edit: In-game I think Ruwa's birthday would be in between the 18th and 19th day of Autumn.

will we be able to train our kids to the type of weapon/skills we will want to play with when our character dies?

"As she grows, we will be able to spend more time with her, interact with her, share our experiences and skills with her, and develop her into a fine young woman."

Sounds like it.

any chance that you can get a coup staged by your oldest childs? that would be cool
I mean if there is going to be plotting and treason in the first place then it should also apply to the player

I'm not sure about being overthrown by your own child though I think your sibling trying to overthrow would make more sense. Especially if you have a bad relationship with them. Having your sibling stage a coup to gain control of clan might be interesting.

If this is not already in the game I would also like to see other people trying to become a ruler, be it a claimant or an ambitious lord, independent of the player.

This is quite interesting. I hope children really do play an important role in the game, instead of being like marriage in Warband. Having children could be fun (especially if you get to play as them eventually), if the feature lives up to its potential.

Also, Ruwa went from looking like a clever kid with attitude in the first screenshot to looking like she has down syndrome in the second screenshot.

Children are something we have been working on for some time now and to finally see them implemented and working in-game has been a really rewarding experience.
Wait, you're still working on implementing major features? Christ, guys, if you haven't finished the big stuff by now and moved on to pre-release polish, how much longer is this going to take? Unless most everything else is pretty well complete and just needs polish, and this was just one complicated feature that took longer than anticipated to get working...

Congrats! Glad to finally see a model of a child, I can't recall if we've seen one before or not. I cant wait to form a dynasty, to continue my character's legacy.

"You know what "legacy" means? It's what you pass down to your children, and your children's children. It's what remains of you when you're gone." -Tywin Lannister

Here's a question for the level designer:
How long does it take to create a scene in Bannerlord and how does this vary between the different types of scenes like standard battle maps, villages, castles etc.?

Hopefully, for the sake of the mental well-being of those that are in charge of creating these scenes at Taleworlds, these don't take too long. Considering how flippin' many villages, castles and towns there are in the game, it really looks like a huge task to create unique scenes for each and every one of these settlements.

Also for the mental well-being of us fans that are so patiently waiting for this game too of course.

This has COMPLETELY restored my hype for the game, so glad you guys are added new and interesting mechanics. Combined with permadeath this will be really cool. Mike the risk of dying in combat way more interesting by turning it into a narrative rather than just ending the game.

Awesome blog.

Although I don't want to be picky, anyone feels annoyed by the in-game graphics quality? To be honest, it looks like Warband.
Annoyed? Looks like Warband? What?
Look I agree that it doesn't look too great by the standards of 2018, but it's really not that bad.
Especially considering that this is a game where literally hundreds of agents can be active simultaneously, fighting it out in real-time combat. Of course it won't look that great.

End this idiotic myth, please. There is actually almost no correlation between how good a game looks and its performance. Most of the best looking games and most professionally made assets are also the most optimised. And games that look like crap will run like crap.

The overall graphics quality of Bannerlord is better than Warband and I have no doubt in that given these 2017 (yes, 2017 ones. The 2018 ones actually look not that good perhaps due to recording) Gamescom footages. But the in-game screenshots recently really make me worry about graphics now. I am definitely not expecting extremely good graphics, not even comparable with Witchers 3 (2015), but these screenshots really look like from 2011 maybe earlier.

Its not an idiotic myth. Having 10,000 highly detailed objects(In Bannerlord and Warband, Soldiers) is going to have a bigger impact on the GPU than 4 objects. It makes sense that having more=more rendering, unless you can somehow argue that having less objects on a screen will not impact the GPU speed.

We will explain it all in much more detail later, but to answer this question directly, there is a 51% chance that the child will be female.

Thanks for an answer. So it is just like John M. wrote. If you want to retain gender of your character in case of his/hers demise, you gotta play carefully and learn art of romance fast

The feature is great but when its stop ? first generation or second ? It will complicate pretty much the AI. And the cities on a such long time could evolve too, so i'm afraid Bannerlord will never be finish until 2020...

Can the AI NPC have random children too ???

I sincerely hope that this function has no end and thus be able to link the 200 years between Bannerlord and Warband as Calradic Uchronia ...

We have already commented here about committing infanticide, kidnapping the successor/noble children and blackmailing the lord in question, but there is a subject that I would like to link with this "new" feature.

How some traits affect offspring AI behavior?
In the Dev Blog 25/01/18 we were told that:
[...] In Bannerlord, an NPC’s behaviour is heavily influenced by their personality traits [...] To do this, the game looks at the NPC's personality traits, some situational parameters and aspects of the NPC's relation to the player [...]

Letting the imagination fly (again) I pose a situation:

After several generations our pc is sovereign of an reestablished empire, united and strong against the threats of the other factions. Our pc has two independent and autonomous children (plausible, as we control our pc), both with their own feuds and troops. The eldest, legitimate heir to the throne is the archetype of noble, yet his brother is just the opposite.

If the younger brother has "Machiavellian" traits, could he murder my pc in a power struggle and dispute the throne with his brother in a fratricidal way through a civil war?

It is here that we enter the horizon of events where terms related to aging, hierarchy, lineage and intrigues is our present singularity.
A crossover with the characteristics of CK in this aspect...Something like that would deserve the wait.  :iamamoron:

Will there be a posibility to only have boys? And more then 1? I wanna have 5 sons and I personally can't play as a female character.
What if I die before I have any kids? What happens then?
Can you choose the gender of the child? Can you change their appearance?
Can I give land to my sons? Can they become my vassals? Can they become vassals to other lords?
Can you have more wifes? What if your wife dies?
Will the children have different personalities? Will the children fight civil wars?

We should be able to choose the gender and appearance of the child, maybe an option in the settings for those who what that, who don't want random children.
