[parsehtml] One of the most important (and complicated) tasks during the development process of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord was to develop our engine. Using a proprietary engine instead of licensing an existing one might look like an unnecessary complication, but it’s actually vital for what we want Bannerlord to be. For a start, the game would not be a moddable as it is going to be without it! Our engine programmer Gökhan Uras explains a bit more about the engine of Bannerlord in this week’s dev blog. The modding capabilities will make this game Insane. You guys have a real weapon of a game, ya know.  :dead:

Hopefully someone can mod in all this CK2-like stuff people are talking about. I highly doubt it will be in the base game but I've always felt M&B could use a bit of characterisation (voice-overs, meaningful traits, dynamic personalities, intrigue, politics). With the way he's describing the moddability (is that a word?) of Bannerlord I think it could be possible. Also someone please redo 1257AD for Bannerlord

do you know how mods are born? Someone has a idea that is not out there yet, so they decide to learn how to make it and have fun with the new feature. Eventually they share it with the community, learn more stuff, do more stuff, share more stuff...

in short: if you want CK stuff on your Bannerlord, why not learn how to do it? There will be tons of people helping each other to learn and implement cool stuff when Bannerlord modding tools are available, you will not be alone.

Can you make an rts game with modding ?
If that is what you want... a combat system like Total War or a Age of Empire (player doesn't make part of the combat, bird eye view, control units/groups). Go crazy

cause so many people stopped modding on Warband thinking Bannerlord was near...

well that is spilled milk, so lets hope they learn from it when MB3 time comes

Mate.. we'd be dead by then..

Great blog and thanks to TW for keeping them coming.

It is difficult to not get too excited after reading all this information on the factions and the development of BL.  I'm not sure what would be better; whether it would be better to behave like a monk and shut myself off from all information about BL until one day when "Ta Da  " BL is unleashed upon the world or to slowly be 'drip fed' a weekly dose of BL information which only whets my appetite for the game which is tantalizingly out of reach ...... at the moment.

Not only is the engine almost finished, but he said any other improvements can be patched in after release.

Is the release closer than we think?

i am a chinese , i'm very like this game , but in games the short legs let me unhappy
Are you happy with the models of Bannerlord my Chinese 朋友?

This blog is nice and good to know about these things. Better performance means my pc would handle this game when it's released. The shadows looks also nice and that sounds good if the whole progress is almost done this means they are close to the release but they still fine tune. In the long run it will be great for us and if they overcome to the difficulties to make the engine module friendly then it will be a nice source of new nice mods and additional features.

I am overall happy to see this and the past blogs were nice too

The engine isn't finished yet?

you should perceive these changes as releasing updates and patches to it in-house

or if you need a analogy: you buy a simple model of a car. Then you replace the wheels. You install electric windows. You change the lights color. Upgrades. The car was working before them, each new upgrade just makes it "better".

Your analogy is more like patches.

Engine changes are analogue to a car's.... engine changing after it goes out to the market.

It's a very appropriate analogy to use, considering it's exactly the one used by the author of the blog- the very same source you are using for the basis of your worrying.

I’m happy TW will continue to tune its engine. Remember, gkx also said:

We built a very solid foundation over the years, so adding features and improvements is not disruptive to development.
