[parsehtml] One of the most important (and complicated) tasks during the development process of Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord was to develop our engine. Using a proprietary engine instead of licensing an existing one might look like an unnecessary complication, but it’s actually vital for what we want Bannerlord to be. For a start, the game would not be a moddable as it is going to be without it! Our engine programmer Gökhan Uras explains a bit more about the engine of Bannerlord in this week’s dev blog. I know many might regard this as improbable, but I have a pretty, pretty strong feeling that the game does not have a long way to come out to us.

the engine is very important. The game can't be built or even run without it. However, remember to not mix it with the actual game. They could "finish" the engine and take another year or longer to complete the gameplay aspects.

Finishing shadows does not look like mixing the engine with the actual game. It looks like the game to me.
Yes but the content in the game might not be done yet. They could still have a long way to go.
There was a thread some guy claimed" Armagan said  that , they still have not modeled all the settlements on the map".That could very well be a possibility as those kinds of things consume a lot of time.  And when you think about it all villages have 4 upgrade slots. Making it severals of combinations of scenes for only one settlement.

It takes time maybe but they have money to hire people . I think seriously it would have been better if they said an estimate relase date in 2016 even in 2019 cause so many people stopped modding on Warband thinking Bannerlord was near... Its useful information too for people who want to change their computers. Bad bad com... and now we just wait week by week...

well that is spilled milk, so lets hope they learn from it when MB3 time comes

What have you done, fool!

What about graphics API used?

OpenGL? Vulkan? DX11? DX12?

Nice to have another confirmation that the game will be well optimized. I don't expect a second technical coming of DOOM 2016 but my expectations are set rather high now.

Don't you kidnap me into that train a third time. OH NO, YOU DON'T.

Great blog @gkx - I'm really happy you support real-time reloading of resources without rebooting the game.
A dream come true for modders, artists and people who mess with stuff in-game. It makes me really glad to see that in a development team.

Oh God, I said to myself that I would not come back to TaleWorld's Forums until the game release and that KDC: Deliverance would help to kill some time, but I can't help  it, it's stronger than me. And now there's a surprise next week so well, **** me right?

Very good blog indeed, very informative. It's very nice indeed to see you guys concerning about CPU performance and seeing such a level of progress. Can't wait untill next week!
Avoid too much hype, but I know how you feel. The lack of money to buy kcd was compensated by a renewed passion for crusader kings 2. First time I managed to play 200 years straight without trying to mod fixes or fix mods. It's a record for me. Each generation I usually had to quit the game because "something is lacking" or because "something is crashing the game"... Hence my passion for making changes while in-game instead of waiting those insufferable 2-5 minutes of loading every time to see if that little change worked.

But seriously, guys, this was an interesting blog. Entertained me enough, and left me hanging for next week. What could come? Maybe some news about your E3 presence or something of the sort? That would entail a Q4 release, most likely... oh I will not dabble in speculation anymore. I am a man of social and human sciences now.

I am basically logging the forum everyday and checking news about MB2 on Youtube, news, etc. The only game I used to do the same is stronghold 2 which turned out to be a nightmare. Just hope this is not the case for bannerlord and it doesn't look so from what has been posted so far.

stronghold 2 was the good one? The 3rd is the bad one.

Do you think that a vassalage system like crusaders kings 2 would work on bannerlord?
can you elaborate? I would like it if we could have internal rivalries, conflicts/wars or press claims against other Vassals like in CK2. Is that what you meant? More freedom for the vassals?

I sure hope we get some good content in the next blog. A video would be much appreciated.
I’m not expecting a 30 mim gameplay, i think those should be given sparingly in order to keep us on our toes. But please give us some more campaign footage TW ??

That would be sweet, I would also like if you could be a king of a already build faction (ex: Vlandia, Sturgia or any of the others). In Warband you could start your own faction, which was nice, but I would like if you can overthrow the kings of the already established factions and became the ruler yourself, in mid/late game obviously when you're a big boy.

There are smaller factions inside factions , no? Brotherhoods and stuff. I can't exactly remember tho

Callum wont boost our hopes for no reason.
He wont take a risk especially after them failing to fulfill their promises about the game.
I suppose we will receive some gameplay videos.

I wish we could turn our neighbors into vassals within the same faction. Obviously we would need a casus belli. Because otherwise the king or other lords could be involved.

I think the vassals liberty could depend on the force of the crown. If the king is weak, we can make war in the frontier without his permission, but if he is a strong leader he could banish us.

Callum hasn't said there will be anything out of the ordinary next week; if your hopes are boosted it is due to a misunderstanding. All he said, when asked what next week's blog would be about, was that we would have to wait and see. That does not imply that anything unusual will be happening, and it is not the first time that the following week's blog topic hasn't been disclosed in advance.

The surprise no more faction blogs, and obviously not an interview because we don't know who to ask questions. Maybe a sub-faction blog, or discussion on some SP features? Or another in-depth dev blog like the weapons physics ones? I'm excited to see what Callum will give us!

Hi there, I just registered to comment this.

Post processing effects looks good, about performance seems they know how serious it is for large battles (700-1000+) and CPU multi threaded, core optimisation, seems the team and the core engine developers have the technical skills to accomplish that.

The Modding community, will take kindly that SDK and tools they want to release (imagine some Lord of The Rings, Brytenwalda or  Game of Thrones mods in Bannerlord)?

I wanna see more about structures destruction, physics and formations among more gameplay mechanics) this is a game I really want to buy (from the release)

BTW, thanks for the Dev/Logs are very interesting (as documentation for a game development project)
