Wild honey can be found, and bog iron, but the real prize has always been fur. For centuries, brave traders ventured there to buy the pelts of fox, rabbit and ermine from the tribes of the woods. As the empire expanded eastward, that trickle of traders became a flood. Great towns sprung up on the rivers. Fortune-seekers came from the coast, from the steppes, and most of all from the Nordlands. Tribal elders made alliances with the newcomers, sealed by wedding vows, and with their share of the trading profits hired mercenaries to subdue other tribes. Sturgia became a collection of principalities, then a kingdom, the great powerhouse of the north.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/39

chaining attacks is a new combat feature

I dont think so. New it is new techniques and mechanics, for example, to knock out the weapon from the opponent or knock him down. It's just numbers.

Well, it was not present in Warband and it's now present in Bannerlord, so I think it is new. :l

And you're already able to knock an enemy down in Warband if you have a maul or something like that.

I have a question. Why for so many years you could not invent a single new combat feature? Alternative animation for a kick does not count.

Do you want Taleworlds to reinvent the wheel or something?

No, I just do not want a game with the old combat system. Especially multiplayer.

Yeah I think you would be better off playing a different game if the game's current combat bothers you so much.

If this is what you want to see as an improvement to the combat then I think we are both playing very different games.

Also you can already knock down other people. Try it out. Go to an invasion server and get the "100% knockdown mace", or go play as a vaegir infantry and get the long knobbed mace and smack people with it.

the Nordlands are off of the map (for the present, anyway)

This blog totally ruined my anticipation for bannerlord, but it is what it is. I'll wait for that nordland DLC then.  I'll officially play Battanians. Thanks to Callum for the blog and finally getting to know Sturgians, I know ALOT of people including me been waiting for this for ages. I'll go roll a cigarette and cry in the corner now.

And without magic it is impossible?

Of course, I have been playing with this combat system for many years. It's boring. 4 blocks 4 strikes.

...That's kind of the central mechanic and is 4 more blocks and strikes then most games?

Calum could give some information if in Bannerlord in the siege will be unprepared similar system of fortified camp of the Vikings Conquest Reforged Edition?
I very much like to defend and attack a fortified camp or camp.

And will you implement similar wagon fort mechanics of Mount and Blade With Fire and Sword?
It could be quite interresting mechanics to be implemented in caravan escort missions or even tax collection like the Robin Hood films.

And will the raid system be expanded? Can we plunder villages and towns?
What about breakable and inflammable objects?
Is it possible to apply some form of treasure hunting?

And how will the mercenary system work?

Yes, but better not.

I would like a "superstructure" on the central mechanics. New opportunities in combat.

I don't find the combat boring--I thoroughly enjoy it. I always have. I would argue that your opinion that it is boring is just that; your opinion. You're free to have it, but I disagree with you. I like the combat system as it is and like the combat changes they are bringing. If they changed it too much from the other M&B games, then it just wouldn't feel like a M&B game anymore. I want this to be a true M&B successor, and for me that includes the unique M&B combat.

Im intrested in seeing your version of perfect combat.

Ignoring money and developement issues, what is your perfect ideal combat system? Describe in full detail, exactly how the player will interact with his weapon and the opponent.

I for one am happy that they based it on the Keivan Rus. Way too many vikings these days while these guys barely are barely done anywhere. I will definitely be interested on playing as these guys.

Well, for example, if you make a swing, but I wound you in the wrist, your weapon can fly away. Expensive gloves give a chance to keep weapon.

I have a lot of idea, but ... a language barrier.

I`m not sure if you read any of the other blogs, but this game is not just a re skin of M&B there`s so many more features. and making such a complicated fighting system would take another 2 years and would make the game harder to pick up for experienced and inexperienced people

If you implant that into the game, does it mean that everyone else can do that too? 800 AIs on the battlefield and each one of them has a chance to hit others in the hand and knock their weapon down or something, then it would require many more calculations isnt it. Same for other ideas like combat rolling or dodging. I think Taleworlds has limited resource and budget so they need to make the best of it, every company does. The point is to make you feel that you are just like any other one in the world, no better than a looter and no worse than a lord. Not much special moves, and gotta take this world with real and limited skills.(I dont know much about computer science and I have language barrier too)

Just want to say as someone who's been following these blogs since the beginning, and been playing M&B for years, I love seeing this regular updates from Taleworlds. It's all that's needed from us more sane fans of the series and is a marked improvement over the earlier years.

There are good fencers, there are bad fencers. Do not forget, the battle is the basis of the game, especially in multiplayer.
