With Bannerlord we have added the ability for players to equip their beloved horses with different kinds of saddles and equine armour. However there was a key piece of equipment that didn’t look as well as it could: reins were left to hang over the horse’s neck in a static, lifeless manner, instead of being held in your character’s calloused hands as they should. This, of course, would not do.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/101

It is actually a nice blog and this feature looks good except the clipping but it is not something is really bothersome because in many games this is a normal thing. If they can fix it that is good if not it is good too.

I am wondering who is she (the rider). Seems a bit close to the girl in the past few blog but grown up.

I like the blog overall, but this is a feature none of you will notice again. By the time bannerlord drops in 2023 People will still complain the saddle isn’t historically accurate and breaks their immersion

Three questions:
1. The hair hasn't moved yet
2. Missing The arrow pot of arrow collision animation
3. No wind blowing up the sense of elegance,The animation of the horse's mane was so fast that the horse seemed lame

Bannerlord will be released when the girl is a grandma !

I understand this dev blog is considered a post-irony. But in this case, why was it released if the developers themselves do not take seriously what they do?
In my opinion it is very sad, not funny.

Hopefully, companion dogs will get their own skeletons and animations without head bobbing.
What? Is this a thing?

The point is that because I have other things I can focus on, I can safely read dev blogs and accept whatever Callum writes, without smashing the keyboard and vomit 10 page essays out of rage for not meeting my made up expectations over a single video game, unlike you. Now do you understand why I can tolerate these blogs?
Congratulations!

I really like the detail! And certainly adds to the overall impression and immersion. Sure they could probably rotate the spear a bit but then it would just clip through close allies instead so don't know really what more can be done and to be honest it doesn't bother me that much.

This is a hope.

WHAT DO YOU CURRENTLY WORK ON?
“I am working on the preparation of the newly added dog animations.

I feel like the spear could do with being titled some more when carried on the back. It looks like it's almost completely straight and going through the horse in the second clip.

I don't think we should even be able to carry the spear on our back. Either switch it to the off hand, drop it, or put it in the "cup" that saddles had for holding a spear.

Now you must understand, this is still Mount & Blade, not KC:grin: or something..
I would rather be able to carry spears...

Does that mean we'll be getting character hair physics

Not sure if it'd be too taxing on the cpu/gpu to apply it to every agent but even if it's just for the player-controlled character, it'd be cool.

You're quite late aren't you? We already have that..

hello can horses please bump allied troops in multiplayer for bannerlord

yeah I want that. Please allow for friendly fire and collision. Atleast make it a setting on every savegame.

Oh how come... I haven't forgetten to edit the comments into one..

This blog, regardless of whether I think that the reins are a good addition to the game, I wonder: is it necessary to make a monothematic blog talking about reins? It's a blog that would compare to the blog of the scabbards... I suppose Humphrey will have his reins too?

Constructive criticism:

1. I suppose it will be part of the "final touches" process; the animation of the 2016 horse and now you show us again...it hasn't been polished. I leave feedback of this rampant movement in Menorcan horses.

2. For the topic of reins; I provide feedback from a professional rider who explains different medieval equestrian techniques. Unless the PC is eventually handling a two-handed spear, a crossbow or bow, the reins should not be released. If the PC has a shield in the left hand, this hand also holds the reins...the right hand is free for the weapon.
Devs: This youtube channel will provide you with reliable material as feedback.

3. The sheep have been unchecked since June 2017 (first time we were aware of them - PcPowerplay Magazine 264). It's a minor matter, but it still looks like a horse with wool.

:arrow:That’s all for this week. If you have any comments or suggestions or just want to point out to the fact that there is no release date yet and that we made up that bit about thought waves, go ahead and join in the discussion below. We look forward to reading your feedback!

1. As a non-horse person it isn't obvious to me what is wrong/inaccurate about the Bannerlord horses, and without explanation it might not be obvious to the devs either. The video shows some show horse performances I think, and the rearing horses rise to being closer to a vertical position than we see in the game; is that the point/one of the points you are making?

2. As others have said, and as I did in the distant past, it would probably be very hard to make it look right if the reins were in the hands during combat; simply letting them drop might be the only way.

3. That's a good point, and I would hope they are going to fix that because that odd head movement stands out even when you focus on the sheep in those short GIFs.

Ettenrocal 说:
Yes i understand that but that was not so well said in the blog, probably the best way during combat, but when no combat maybe character can handle the reins with shield side hand. Not a big problem.

The problem with that might be that you would be dropping and picking up the reins very frequently during combat, everytime that you went from not blocking to blocking with the shield. It might look a little strange.

Gab-AG. 说:
Summary: there are reins in the game and they're properly animated.

We've seen this before in footage of the game. See you next week.

We have? Do you have a link?

I am always amazed by the quality you have achieved with the characters, except for the design choices that can be questionable the overall result is really good! but now I'm worried by the quality difference between them and the sorrounding enviroment, isn't time to give some love to the maps too?

Do we? I've never seen human hair physics in BL. I think they're having a very hard time figuring how to make it work properly with all the hair styles, different morphs and headgear.

1. The height that the horses reach in the video is too high for the animation that is required in the game, but I have purposely put it to see how the biomechanics of the animal works. The person who has designed the horses apart from taking as a reference only (apparently) Arabian horses, has not taken into account the "biomechanics" (apparently). The problem is the animation (the part of the neck is deformed / that part needs to be thicker) and that the rider does not ride a horse but a motocross bike . I did a Tercosketch as feedback.
Z7qUqqt.jpg

2. So if this is the case then only the use of reins will be correctly applied when precisely no weapons are being carried. I'm of the opinion that if I do it, I do it well... stay halfway; it's a waste of time.

3. We seem to agree on this one.

Maybe this is too picky but if you are polishing rough edges a little bit of detail pampering always comes in handy. :iamamoron:

"The system is still a little bit rough around the edges and we plan to refine and polish it over the upcoming weeks. " Refining a minor detail for weeks does not bode well for a release any time this year.

Any change in a huge and complex game like BL may be in the weeks timescale, if not months, especially if it happens to impact animations.
Speaking of time, I think they'll need to rush the final debugging a lot if they plan to release the full game before 2021.

But the entire team won't be working on it over that week, and not all at the same time.
None of us, including you, have any way of knowing that. Given the time already elapsed, I think it likely that 2019 is out of the question. I would be happy if I were wrong.
