In this week’s blog, we will take a look at the multiplayer class system.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/118

I can't make a true comment on the system until I have a chance to try it, but generally speaking restrictions are rarely a good idea and should be a last resort. I understand the interest in trying to prevent a snowballing effect where a successful team gets better and better gear after each consecutive victory while the losers stay poor, but I am not sure this is the way. Maybe there should be a server option for minimum and maximum money/points that players can have. I know in Warband some servers would boost the starting money and that would help.

Getting rid of the ability to customize as you like and have ragtag armies just seems like a step backwards.

Btw Roy, personally I think those ideas are horrible. It would make more sense to allow players with pikes to somehow group up and create formations that would automatically follow a designated leader's movement (but allow the player to attack and block as they see fit) thereby creating formations that were so difficult in warband. That would help in the anti-cav role they were meant for.

PS, spears beat swords all the time my ass. If that were the case swords would never have been invented...spears are far cheaper.

How exactly are you meant to kill somebody if you only have teo attack directions, need a lot of range to hit them and they can close in on you easily? In real life, Spears beat swords all the time.
We don't want realism, we want a fun game.

Add in feints, increase movement speed of infantry, give every faction pikes, remove the crazy debuff to movement speed from armor. Make it a balanced improved version of warband with better graphics.

Making stronger armour as quick to move in as light armour would make it pretty much pointless to choose lighter armour, so its a gameplay issue. Plus, although in the short term a fully plated soldier could fight virtually as nimbly as an unarmoured one, he wouldn't be able to run as fast (you cannot carry 20kg extra in weight and still run as fast as without), and in the long term he would tire sooner and be more prone to overheating, so there can be realistic downsides to wearing more armour.

Why increase the movement speed of infantry? Until the game has realistic combat movements, speed and body physics, making soldiers run faster doesn't sound like an obviously beneficial change to me. I imagine it would look peculiar and potentially ruin the combat.

Why give every faction pikes? We know that the Empire is described as having them, though they aren't the renaissance era length of pike. I don't see the need for everyone to have them- what's more, if you mean the very long pike of the renaissance, they would need to fight with them in a totally different way. Even if such fighting would be fun (which I am far from convinced it would be, it sounds like a recipe for getting poked a lot while stuck in a tight formation), it would need a lot of clever work on animations etc. to look and feel real, plus all the AI would have to be reworked to fight against pikes (what are cavalry going to do? Stand at edge of map until all pikemen are dead? Or will it be hard for pikemen to quickly change direction?) and fight with them. Given that there is still serious concern about the AI even being able to use normal length spears effectively, what hope is there of them being able to fight with pikes?

If muh realism is what you're after then 20 lbs of armor does pretty much nothing g to limit the mobility of a physically fit man.
You increase the movement speed of inf because in the gameplay shown so far it's slow and sucks.
You give every faction pikes to counter inevitable cav spam.

The only circumstance in which formations will work is in sieges. It's more beneficial to move around in a loose formation even with pikes.

I think this is an official, canon answer to "Are Sturgians Nords?".

It seems they partly are.

blog_post_98_taleworldswebsite_02.jpg

 I guess they must be like the great migration germanic tribes mostly, like the Jutes, Burgundians, Saxons ...

 PS: Where did the shield straps go ?

My impression is the Nords are to Sturgians as the Varangians were to the Rus...in that they were a people/culture within a larger people/culture. The small group (Nords/Varangians) were Germanic/Viking in style while the larger group (Sturgians/Rus) were Slavic. There is belief among scholars that this happened often in the past (for example the Goths having an overall Germanic culture but being an amalgamation of many peoples that took on that culture or the Anglo-Saxons doing the same with the local Celtic Britons) though contrary to "PC" considerations recent genetic/archaeological evidence tends to refute this with the Anglo-Saxons.

Embrace the change veterans, you can have the best of both worlds; unbalanced casual Warband style in custom servers, balanced competitive style in matchmaking. The warband style would not work competitively, as has clearly been seen in Warband.

Warband’s style was not perfect at all. Dont try to tell me you cant find a single flaw with it :lol:

Why is this new recruit fella blown off ? Did he said sth bad ?

Anyway I think Taleworlds should explain the situation of Ulfhednar-Huscarl-Sturgia-Battania. It is way too confusing at the moment.
Sturgia=Kievan Rus(mostly Slav+ some Nord)>>>has ulfhednar who are germanic, has huscarl who are Nordic
Battania=Celtic>>>has ulfhednar who are germanic

Can these questions get answered by anyone preferably Taleworlds ?

1- Are these troop trees final situations or will it change again ?
2- Does Battania still have Ulfhednar or did TW move them to Sturgia so only Sturgia has them at the moment ?
3- If both Battania and Sturgia have Ulfhednar will there be any differences between their Ulfhednars ? Or will they be like common units ? Like 2 handed swordsman in Age of Empires 2 ?
4- What is the cultural and historical relevance between Germanic Ulfhednar and Celtic kingdoms Battanians are inspired of ?
5- What is the cultural and historical relevance between Germanic Ulfhednar and Kievan Rus the Sturgians are inspired of ? (Maybe that Nordic side of Sturgia since Nords are also Germanic ? But still 2 of 3 infantry of Sturgia are Nord relevant(ulfhednar and huscarl) then but doesnt the faction suppose to be more Slavic or maybe thats how Kievan Rus army was infantry wise ? Any history buffs specialised at this matter ?)

So we won't be able to choose the equipment anymore... I'm so disappointed, I have no words.

For a game that thrives as a sandbox, this change is perhaps the single worst thing that has happened to Mount&Blade. Customization is more important than visually determining what class an opponent is. Without players being able to express themselves through their apparels and unique weapon combinations, I can imagine Multiplayer becoming a bleak experience for a lot of people.

Pros;
Everything the post mentions.

Cons;
Casual gameplay sacrificed.
Players cannot express themselves.
Gameplay will be limited to pre-defined classes and will stop creativity in terms of gear selection combinations.
Staying close to a friend in a crowded server will be virtually impossible because everyone will look the same.
Can't recognize a particular person who is perhaps dominating you, or you're dominating.

I totally agree.

Still like to know what is the max amount of players are going to be in a server for this game. In warband during it's beta days it took a while before it reached a max of 250 players in a server. When mods like Persistent World, Mount & Musket and others that came along in 2011 - 2013, I swear it's those massive battles that I had the most fun in Warband.

I think Captain Mode is great to test out in the Beta, but I'd love to see if the rumors of 400 player servers are going to be true or not. Potentially could make this game to be really popular in the future.

I'll still look at screenshots till then.

I don’t know where you’re getting this. I don’t see anywhere in the blog where it says this disaster is limited to the skirmish mode.

Me too.

People sound like they need to be catered in every single aspect of the game.

On the other hand it would be cool to be able to tint certain parts of the garments in both MP and SP.

Unfortunately reading the blog it's obvious that this unbelievable, nonsensical, absurd and catastrophic change isn't limited to skirmish mode.

Huscarl on that screenshot has the most hiddeous trousers i ve ever seen! I really hope they will change the red-white striped MC Hammer trousers to something more real and practical in combat.
Also, if they've put em already, they should ve been blue-white, to resemble their faction colors, Sturgia, this way it makes no sence whatsoever.

PS.
Gotta give mad props to the wrinkling of the cloth on the trousers, and stripes folowing the wrinkling. Thats seriously top tier graphics there

The trousers are nicely done. What shock me the most are these "feudal" mail chausses, totally out of place for such a culture.
