A traveller coming over the passes from greener lands would first see fields of dunes broken by gravel plains and volcanic outcrops, shimmering under the heat haze. But there is water to be found underground, trapped in depressions or beneath the wadis where the occasional flash flood rumbles by. And in these oases people have settled. They are divided into dozens of clans and sub-clans, each with its elaborate genealogy, but are collectively known as the Banu Asera or the Aserai after the legendary patriarch Asera, whom they all claim as an ancestor.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/41

Can Steve Negus elaborate on the events system?

Yeah just as soon as they elaborate on the aging and time system lol or just about half the other things people want to hear about.

They can start with elaborating on when they plan to release the **** game

Amen. That would be nice wouldn't it? I'm guessing won't happen until another big event.

Not sure what you meant? Some curved swords exist since immemorial times, like falcatas. Shamshirs, like talwars and kilijs were widespread way before that.

Talwars are Indian not arabic, kilijs are Turkish, and the shamshir was Persian and not did not appear before the 12th century, which is a century after Bannerlord is set if I'm not mistaken.

At least they didn't add the hollywood 'scimitars' which look like a cross between a falchion and a curved sword fetish dream

Are we talking about Bannerlord or world history? I suppose the latter, since the inclusion of any of these weapons in a fantasy land is up to the devs.

You didn't mention anything about Arabs in your post. You said "curved swords didn't become commonplace until the 14-15th century (maybe even later)", and this is not true at all.

You are confusing the fact that Arabs *probably* absorbed curved swords from different cultures around them after the proposed game timeframe.

Heck, even some of Muhammad's swords were curved, including Zulfiqar

+Iberian Wolf
I changed my stance towards this but just to correct you.
Zulfiqar is a mythological sword and it belonged to Ali.
Even if it was real it would be straight.
Fatimids for example portrayed it as a straight sword.

The only reason Muslims today portray it as a curved sword is because they also think curved sword is ''islamic''.
About Mohammad's swords(even though most of them are probably fake)

The holy relics that are prooved to be fake ;
the stone that was claimed to be Muhammads tayammun stone turned out to be an ancient assyrian tablet. It is in fact a letter that was sent to King Ashurbanipal by the head fancy of the palace. It turned out to be that the writings were orders to a sculptor called marishtar.
2-prayer rug claimed to be Fatma's turned out to be left from 16th century.
3-Another rug that was claimed to be of Huseyins turned out to be a carpet from 17th century.
4-The book that was claimed to be covered with blood of Uthman turned out to be just a moistened gazelle pelt and the writings were left from Ayyubids.
5-A pack that was claimed to be Aısha's turned out to be from the era of Suleiman The Magnificent. In fact they even found the signature of its maker.
6-The sandals that were claimed to be Mohammads turned out to be Byzantine 13th century sandals by the art historians
They were even going to make a carbon test to them but religious people called it immoral. And not few of them only one of nine of them is curved and it is obviously fake not because it is curved but because it has a yalman(fake tip).It is impossible for a sword that was produced in 7th century Arabia to have yalman.Anyways the swords are

There's no evidence on zulfiqar looking like that as that would be a very, very impractical design for a sword.
No there's no mention of Arabs because I though it obvious that we were talking about Arabs, in the comment section of a faction that's based off the arabs. There's proof enough to suggest that curved swords were not used in Middle East under this time period.

Don't mind the ultra-realism bandwagon, they're just a loud minority that thinks their opinion is more valuable than yours just because... Realism!
In their minds, a video game should be as realistic as possible.

The moment they start to try to make you look silly with "he wants helicopters in the game" attacks, just ignore them.

Oh so when you request something unhistorical it's fine, but when I request something unhistorical it's not? That's extremely hypocritical.
For the record I really like Crossack hats.

Chupacabra12 说:
why is there no religion thats bs

Because thats not what the game is about. In the other hand, there will be tons of mods that add religion

If you are going to continue talking bout that, move on to the other blog please.
Also no, you can suggest something, but dont spam it. You said you wanted it, but there is no reason to fill more information about it being historical and so on, once is enough.

Questions for next time regarding NPCs.
1. NPCs are an important part of immersion for the game; in the past they have been very shallow. Even if the developer does not wish to directly work at complex characters, dialog, and NPC directed activities (quests), t seems it would be easy to add the ability for us modders to add it by including easy access to four things (based on the "good" parts of the Bethesda model in ES and FO):
a. Context triggers/filters. A place, time, event that can trigger dialog with an NPC filtered to have certain characterstics.
Ex. Time.IsWinter && PlayerParty.!SleepInside last night => If NPC.IsInParty make snarky comment about being cold.
b. Branching dialog. Ability to branch NPC dialog based on player / NPC responses.
c. Multiple responses. [Ability to draw context sensitive dialog responses from a list via RNG.] Having an NPC make the same response every time (the current companion backstories when they near their homes for example) something happens is a sure immersion killer; allowing us to create dozens of possible responses in a list that all reflect a particular NPCs personality, and then dynamically draw one randomly really helps with immersion.
d. Tie dialog responses to actions. This is a good way to build immersive quests; allow the modder to easily tie new actions/quest stages to specific dialog responses.

I just made a comment to point out your wrong statement: "curved swords didn't become commonplace until the 14-15th century (maybe even later)". That's what I have a problem with. I'd be fine if you would have said several centuries before.

If Zulfiqar or the other curved swords claimed to be from that era are mythical and/or fake, I can't guarantee. Nobody can, but there is a possibility they are legit. The thing is, it really doesn't matter that much because it's all about the curved sword concept, and I'm adamant Arabs were aware of it and it's so obvious, given their geographical position, so close to India, Persia, Egypt. Not to mention about the traditional daggers Yemenis carry to this day.Anyway, enough hijacking from my part.

What you suggest is possible to mod with Warband’s module system. Unfortunately, it is a lot of work to change all of the dialogues for Warband’s shallow characters let alone increasing their complexity.

PS WFaS did something along these lines to make Colonel Zagloba a guide through its quests.

I am fairly certain both Jesus and Mohammed wielding curved swords, I have no base to support this one, but I'd imagine it to be true.

Except they did not.

Nice blog and faction. I was never a big fan of middle-eastern factions, except maybe the sassanids, but for what I've seen so far about the Aserai, they are pretty cool. I wonder, are we going to see the Empire in 3 different blogs? The West, The North and The South? Or just one blog about them that includes the empire as a whole?

Why? What does religion bring in a game like M&B?

go play VC and then come back  .

Bannerlord doesn't need religion as a gimmick for drama or wars, but that is not to say it couldn't be added as a interesting layer for things like diplomacy, recruitment of troops, etc. But we don't have it on MB and Warband, so I see no reason to add it to Bannerlord.

No religion also means no religion drama on forum/steam/reviews/etc

I am gonna play as Khuzait first and I will destroy this plague before it spread to the world!

I got super pumped reading this dev blog, but on a reread I realised I'd misinterpreted.

"The desert of the south will be hard to rule and dangerous to traverse, but the other realms ignore it at their peril, lest it suddenly throw forth a host capable of bringing empires to their knees."

When I read this, I thought "holy ****, foreign invasions" but then I later realised that the Aserai were the mentioned faction, there's no more-south desert faction that'll sweep in and take lands. I'd really like to see some off-calradia interactions. The Aserai are in the greatest of positions. To the west, more "turk" inspired factions, for all your desert archer needs (honestly, throw them in last minute as a small batania-type faction, re-use as many assets as you want) and beyond them, the exotic india-esq continent, only felt through trade and impressive beasts. To the south, the lucrative trade of an unknowable dark continent (which totally had empires and stuff in this point of history).

I'd like stuff to make the world feel bigger. But other than that, I am excited for a bunch of other stuff, like unique horse properties (still want camels) and such. I do question the theivery focus, seems like it could be a negative stereotyping, I do wonder if arabs were any worse than europeans. I'm an armchair sociologist, so I'd feel more comfortable if someone cited academic sources rather than just old fiction.

On a random note, how do people feel about nomadic settlements that change location. I don't want to have "nomads" just be bandit/aimless peasant groups or something, and I need the resource for a mod.

I wonder how the faction management system will appear, and how can we interact with "minor factions". That thing seems really exciting. If we will be able to bribe one of the minor faction leader in enemy faction with money/woman/wine (or butter  ) and make them "stay away from conflicts" would be super cool

If you really don't to give a release date why don't you just put out a dev blog or video about what is between you and giving us a beta / released game. Just lay the path and be transparent. Is that to hard to ask from devs? Would it not ease a lot of minds about release date?
