However, it is not uncommon for an artist in any games development studio, especially in one comparatively small like TaleWorlds, to roll up their sleeves and tackle some other tasks. In this week’s Q&A we talk with Gökhan Sahin, one of our 3D artists, who is currently designing a certain scene – but better he explains it himself!

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/100

great screenshots, all 3 look good and show different things (trees, a weapon model and a lords hall scene).

couple weeks to create one inner scene like that tho suggests that total conversion mods will take a little longer to be available hehe, or that we will see bigger teams working on projects than in Warband-era.

all this release date discussions.. I put 25% for Xmas and 70% for 2020/Xmas. 5% for 2025 :razz:

If I'm dying of thirst in a desert and a violinist stops by to play me a tune, am I supposed to appreciate that in the moment?

Theres a huge difference between getting angry because you are impatient and literally dying.

Ah, good point. I was unaware of the difference between these two things, and certainly was not making a hyperbolic abstraction to make my point.

In terms of things that could be enjoyably represented in a game, what does a king do when he has absolute power in a region? [...]

You're right, having achieved the highest possible title, a large part of the drive of the game (advancing your position) is gone. This is where I hope the character interaction and personality system will make a big difference, in that it will be an engaging task to manage the diverse lords of your kingdom and events that arise from their relationships. That includes your own relationships to them. For instance, you probably stepped on a few toes claiming kingship, and those holding grudges might act on them sooner or later.

Once you’re a King the challenge should be to retain power despite:

1. faction uprisings - conquered factions reassert themselves and throw off your yoke;
2. assassination - rivals murder you and depose your heir, forcing you (the player, now as your heir) to start a civil war to reclaim your kingdom;
3. popular revolts - crushed by your taxation and oppressive policies the common people try to depose you and encourage your troops to desert;
4. clan politics - the clans of your faction are fed up with your leadership and vote for a replacement. You can accept their decision or fight a internal clan war;
5. Nord invasion;
etc.

Nice ideas for challenging a player who becomes king, but it should also feel rewarding once you've stabilized your kingdom, and not just continued conflict. I'm not sure what exactly it would look like for a M&B, but there should be some lofty/impracticle/on principle accomplishments for players who have effectively won.

Whatever it looks like, late game content is needed for sure. Maybe we'll get a teaser for some features in the future. :fruity:

Exactly. At that point the game would need to shift focus from being a good fighter and commander, to being a good king. Meaning to rule wisely and balance the various needs and challenges of the kingdom.

Simple math guys:

Took 7 years to make: Engine + Basic assets + Early Game + Mid Game.

This averages 1 year and 9 months per feature.

Mark my words: Bannerlord will be released for 2020 holydays.
Its not very accurate considering how much time was spent on redoing the engine and other core stuff.

So, in your opinion the game is likely to be released before 2020 holydays because of less development recycles? Quite optmistic of you! :fruity:

Honestly, at first it didn't bother me that the game was taking so long to release and they that started to do these posts. But now, no thank you. I won't be buying this game.

Why you guys can’t just release the game for us the players to figure everything out for ourselves and go woooow this is amazing. But Instead were left with reading about it which just isn’t doing it. Your graphics are going to be outdated soon and you’ve got some other games coming out that are gonna completely wreck the competition. We all understand making a game takes time but how long has this game been in development ???? Come on now otherwise just cancel it and move on or atleast take your games advertisement page off steam to let another game take its place that plans to come out soon. I’m not saying it’s going to be a bad game”if it’s released” but I will say the hype is gone for me. When I play a game I like to discover everything myself from UI aspects to things in game, I get enjoyment exploring, seeing things for the first time and such. For me you're giving away too much and I don't think I'll be looking forward to this at all.
"Just don't read it" already seen too much of it now.

Will be spending my money on a different game, I hope this game gets released eventually for everyone else waiting.

Yes i know its probably too optimistic but i mean seriously 8 or 9 years to make one game? :lol: i cant imagine. Callum says “its really fun even with some late game mechanics missing”, so yes i know thats probably not all thats missing but it cant be too much more than that. To take another 2 years just to make that stuff... thats enough time to make a whole game! (Maybe not for taleworlds hehehe)

Sand is one of the core gameplay mechanics we've overlooked in the previous blogs. In Bannerlord sand plays a crucial role by slowing down the movement of merchants, bandits, mercenaries and alike.
Today we talk with Some Intern, our Chief Sand Engineer who is currently working on making sand as immersive as possible.

Well, you better start to get used with 8+ years dev time for BL. :lol:

I think it's unlikely to be released in 2019.

If BL isn't the new Duke Nukem Forever, let's hope it isn't Diablo 3 as well.
