You find yourself deep in enemy territory. After seizing an enemy stronghold, you pause for a respite. The campaign has been long and costly, and supplies are running low... And then, on the horizon, you see your worst fears realised. At first, a low rumble and a blur of colour, but then, slowly, the standards and banners of the enemy army come into focus. Your army is ill-prepared for a field battle, and so, you dig in.

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/117

Hope they add a mechanic where you can agree to surrender by a certain date if reinforcements don’t arrive. In real life, this was often the case: a common agreement was surrender if not relieved by mid summer.

I love the screenshot. Look at this idiot in the background.

These new options sound quite exciting, more depth is precisely what would make me more interested in singleplayer. Also, perhaps it's just me, but that second screenshot looks pretty amazing.

That sword's quite fancy:

Another option is to stay mobile outside of the siege camp, harassing the enemy, attacking foragers and reinforcements in the hope that the enemy will run out of provisions before they can take the castle
This better be an actual thing in game and not a flowery description of hunting down some stragglers' and latecomers' parties.

Or alternatively, you may use your tactics skill to break out of the siege with relatively little loss and save yourself and the majority of your army from annihilation.

Hmm, I was hoping it'd be quite a high risk high reward thing to decide and defend a castle or reinforce a castle under siege hoping the relief force is just around the corner. Having the ability to just escape it with losses other than the destruction of your army seems a bit too easy.

Issue with that in warband was not only the tediousness but also that all armies in proximity would join the battle, including the ones besieging if I’m not mistaken. Hopefully they have a better system for this.

Have you done away with sallying out to destroy siege equipment, delay, etc? The only sally-out mentioned was for the defenders to help their reinforcements.

I agree, sounds a lot like talk of "ambushes".

I really like that you no longer get a free pass into besieged settlement and have to break into it now, though. Really good addition, it was always odd when you were allowed to do that in previous M&Bs.

Great blog, not much extra information but it's understandable now that we're so close to gamescom. The shadows/lighting on the second SS is so amazing though!

I particularly appreciate having to create a distraction by sacrificing men.

The only thing that worries me about that is that we may witness lot less siege defense action, as you won't always be willing to just lose troops randomly breaking in and sitting in a besieged settlement isn't whole lot of fun either, especially that you need to be sitting in there before enemy army even arrives. But hey, you can't eat a cake and have a cake, from the two I prefer the current solution to Warband's.

This brings me back to the dev blog mentioning siege layout for a scene, it would be awfully nice to be able to walk the streets and enter the keep while you're in a besieged settlement, preferably with some soldiers present on the positions they'll spawn in, so that you can learn where's what and who before the battle.

You and most of your men may survive, but as many as 39 troops may be lost.

Sounds ominously similar to the Warband menu option to retreat by abandoning a rear guard. Given the early Bannerlord siege videos, showing the defenders sallying out to destroy siege equipment, I had hoped that siege options would be fought in scenes as opposed to clicked clinically through a menu. Why can’t a relieving force fight its way into a castle on the battlefield? Just clicking a menu option and accepting prescribed losses lacks any real player involvement or immersion.

If the relieving force attacks with surprise, it would be similar to the siege defender sally battle:
Phase 1 relieving force hits besieger’s skeleton screening force (same as defender’s sally hits skeleton guard on siege engines),
Phase 2 besieger’s screening forces progressively reinforced from the siege camp (same as defender’s sally battle),
Phase 3 relieving force must punch a hole in the siege lines by setting fire to barricades etc. (Same as defenders sally where the defender must torch siege engines),
Phase 4 before too many reinforcements from the siege camp can destroy the relieving force, it must abandon the fight, dash through the hole opened in siege lines and enter the castle or retreat if no hole was opened (same as sally forces retreating back into the castle before they are outnumbered and destroyed).

Why can’t this code be repurposed for an attack from the opposite direction?

That's a neat idea. I do believe they've said that the siege scenes will be identical to the city they're based in. If that really is the case, I don't see why this option shouldn't be in the game. Could be nice to walk around the deserted streets and get a lay of the land to know where and how to place your troops when **** hits the fan.

Anyone know which factions are shown here?

Nice screenshots by the way :fruity:

They also mentioned trebuchets, that would be awesome to see
