Each of these cultures sports their own unique types of clothing, weapons, armour, and architectural styles, bringing a high-level of diversity to the continent of Calradia. However, there was one aspect of the game that was a little lacking and not entirely in keeping with our efforts to create a huge, believable game world. And for a game with the word Mount in the title, it is something we thought we should take a closer look at... We are of course talking about horses!

[/parsehtml]Read more at: http://www.taleworlds.com/en/Games/Bannerlord/Blog/104

Excelent news!!! This is awsome! It was something that I allready had think and whould love to see in the game!
Please dear developers, put your eyes on red dead redemption 2, the horses are amasing and you can see what breed they are just by looking at them, and they have diferent status and qualities, so you can decide whitch one you like the most, and whitch one is best for you. And they behave like real horses. Please have a look and take all the good ideas and good work that they did, and bring those ideas to this awsome game you are making!
This is realy good news and I hope you are sucessfull in this project.
I love horses and they are one of the best part of Mount & Blade, so do your best!!!

It would be amazing too, if you could breed horses in the game, like if you have a vilage and a farm you could put your horses there to breed and you would have new horses some time later. It would be cool!

Another idea come in mind. There are different kind of horses and I suppose we can equip them with some kind of horse armor. So if we make a fantasy mod with centaurs then the centaurs what will wear? What breed will be used, could they actually reproduce and mix breeds? Just some idea.

The steppe horse's head is the same size as the torso lol

It is for the horse archer training: easy horse headshot!

" In total, we have added six new horse breeds to the game; each of them inspired by real-world breeds from Europe, Africa and Asia. Each of the new breeds is attached to a different culture in the game. Each particular breed can be further trained as a war horse, which will be much stronger and tougher but will also be much more expensive. So, overall there will be twelve types of horse, in addition to pack horses and mules. "

What will be the other six?
Some old warband names like warhorse make no sense now since horse armor is separate from the horse while in Warband warhorse was just a horse with metal.

Anyway I think that desert horse despite the name will be more similar to courser than warband desert horse.

This blog is very interesting, i liked the separation of normal horses and the much more expensive warhorses, this means that if it's not already in vanilla we could mod that to train the heavier horsemen troops like imperial catrapact and vlandian knights it would require warhorses, otherwise you could only train lighter horsemen like scouts and squires for example that would only require normal horses.

This would balance more the clear superiority of mounted troops with the much higher costs to train and mantain them.

What is the use of the peace horses then?

I suppose they will be useful in the beginning of the game when the player can't afford a trained horse and/or doesn't have the required skill to use them.

What about banners? Will I be able to customize it? For example, I would like to merge colour I like with symbol that suits me

Also for mounted infantry: you don't waste money on warshorse for them. Maybe they will carry more items than warhorse but less than mules and pack horses that can't carry people (well they can in real life).
Aserai mounted infantry could have problems: they horse are expensive and nobody cares if they are faster since they fight on foot. Maybe their camels will be used for mounted infantry too?
Khuzait horses are cheap so they can have big hordes of mounted infantry to avoid to slow down their horse archers.
Battania and Sturgia seems a good deal too since they survive in hostile land.

Thanks for the blog, Callum! I've waited for a long time for this one to be posted. It is impossible to imagine M&B without horses. Historically, well-trained warhorses cost a fortune for the warriors. But at the same time, they played a great role in the battle. Young or newly trained horses were not so effective in the combat thus they could run away from the battlefield if the warrior fell off the horse. You guys could add more warhorse skills like courage, effective charge, response to the whistle, horse kicks (similar to shield attack by the player) and so on. The trained horses could be purchased from the horse trainers according to their levels and skills trained. It would be great if horses could be trained by the player too!

Callum, I have a question about the following:

Will the 'courage' parameter be one of the horse parameters? If yes, how it will work?
Very good point, Temchik! Courage could make the horse charge the enemies more effectively adding points to damage. The more courage the horse has the more effective it would be to control in the battlefield. For example, all the horses, naturally, are fearful thus they might not jump over the blocks or they might stop right in front of the enemy you want to charge.
I think this could be done by adding the development of these skills into the players' skills as a "horse trainer". If the player wants to train the horse then he/she could choose this skill to develop further. when all of the available horse trainer skills are mastered, it will require some time to train the new horse. But this process could be speeded up if the horse takes part in the battles or arena fights.

Also, untrained horses cannot escape when encircled by enemy troops, while well-trained warhorse could try to kick the enemies and ran away.

The same horses but trained to be war horses.
I think that combinations could be more than six taking into account different levels of training a horse has received. For example, charging level 5, courage 8, speed 6 etc.

Please give us the option to name our horses, 'cause i don't want to cross the desert on a horse with no name
+4 years development

I'm fine with the upgrade feature. It's good that you don't have to change your mount for a better one as the game progresses, that means more bound between rider and horse. The feature souds solid and not overcomplicated as it is. Thanks for the info.
