Yes she and several other KoA came from the Jedi game *just confirming*

Screenshot is about 6 months old

In a server with a bunch of no-names.

Not impressed.

Ok fair enough

*Cough*

I'm afraid I'm a horrible shot

So, I take that as a yes. Then I guess I met my first autoblocker a few hours ago. Or at least it fits the description: unnatural, lightning fast serial blocking (all done in the last possible window of opportunity), and a perpetual lower block as soon as I started feinting, just to test if I was right about my suspicions. Dracon, he was. Probably a newbie both in wFaS and using autoblocker.

If I'm right and he was really cheating then it's actually possible to detect it if they're not too savvy. There was something really odd in the way he blocked, almost unnatural or machine like, as noted by previous posters, then the low block. Funny thing, he was using it while being a musketeer. I guess he didn't find an autoaimer yet.

A while ago 40 people got banned for using auto-blockers on cRPG. I went to see if those things actually existed, I found a site with them and tried it out in custom battle. Personally I felt crippled while using one, they did mistakes that I would normally not do.

A half-decent player is better than a player with an auto-blocker.

You prolly got a wrong one. The autoblock hack I've seen blocks everything -except for kicks, projectiles and couched lances- perfectly.

The question is not IF the hack works, I think thats established by now. The question is how to detect it. A talented coder in my clan was working on a detection program that would detect 'false blocks' as opposed to 'true' blocks. I've seen a prototype in action and it looked quite well on its way. Sadly my clanmate took a big brake from coding and gaming for a while and I've no idea if anyone is still working on something to reliably fish out autoblockers.

That being said, I haven't seen anyone that I suspect of using the hack in a long time. Who knows? Maybe M&B'ers are in general very sporting chaps?

Look, this problem is really going rampant. As it was said, it is not easy to reliably detect, and anyone could toggle it, AFAIK. I am observing more and more suspicious behaviours as overal defending skills are increasing absurdly. I think we REALLY need an efficient way to detect autoblockers, or observe the overall game fun factor drop considerably.

As a duel nerd, duel being where auto blocking hits hardest, I still haven't seen anyone I think is using this thing. The vast majority of people suspected or accused are legitimate skilled players.

Several EU servers are already running a community-created detector that works well. I can't/won't say which here though.

A while back I decided to fool a clanmate of mine (who is an above average duelist and knew about the autoblock hack being out) by simulating the autoblock hack while using an alt. I'm a pretty decent blocker and between the blocks I would hold a downblock and when he would use wild feints I would do some wild semi-random blocks in the air. After about 3 duels he started accusing me and after about 10 he said he was going report me. He then actually told me on steam that someone was clearly using autoblock hax and if I would come to the server and check it out

Anyways, the gist of the story is; until there is a reliable way of automatically detecting if someone is autoblocking, try not to accuse anyone too quick. I doubt ppl are actively trying to simulate the hack like I did that time so you can still look at if ppl are reacting unrealistically fast while having no footwork/sense of range/etc. Just make sure you are very sure before you start seeing ghosts and make accusations at everyone who is a skilled blocker.

But that also doesn't mean that we should all assume that hacking and cheating is a part of Warband and wFaS MP now and we must keep our heads down.

I've only ever noticed 1 potential person who could have but was most likely not using an autoblocker on GK's server.

Beer and I were trying it out, and Beer felt exactly the same with it on as he does without it, except I killed him faster. I assume this is because he doesn't use it, so he doesn't know how to use it effectively. You can still beat them.

In theory, I suppose you'd have to adjust your play style towards defensive to really take advantage of it. If you can frustrate your opponent with an impenetrable defense they'll get bored/impatient and start making stupid mistakes or spamming. Then it would be child's play to finish them off while they're flustered.

Yeah, it takes a little to adapt to. Also, for some odd reason, it quit working right. No clue why.

I know an autoblocker can be countered, but it still detracts from the game. I think this is a very serious issue in warband, and should be attacked consistently.
