Adding obstacles to attackers would be great, very simple to implement and would make a ton of difference in siege defense gameplay.
Maybe even adding a feature where you could deploy some obstacles and traps before the start of the battle to slow down the attackers and having more time to retreat, AI would benefit from this too and would this would make gameplay a lot more fun and dynamic.
Gameplay based on just "clashing swords" is boring when there are so many options to spice up the game.
