They will still try to attack you, as shown in the last picture as they try to throw javelins at me, but are otherwise stuck in this position.

I made a post about this in a mountain hideout a while back, but this one is much more consistent.
I'm assuming the higher your clan tier is the more you'll get it as more enemies generally spawn in them.
